Our Story...Just Begun? (musings on Neanderthals)
" They were huge hulking pale-skinned beasts
thick bow-legs like gnarly tree trunks
not like us... night-black, swift and sleek,
some women, son, thought they were hunks.
Yeah, said to produce fine fit bucks...
but had no savvy, do ye see, son
for bows, boomerangs, arrows and such.
Brains? thick as hide o' rhino's
and slow, slow as an old dodo
they had no go, just couldn't run...
But they drew some fame, great big feasts
with downed mammoths, girt bloody chunks
on fires running with sweet, sweet, grease,
them, stomp,...
thick bow-legs like gnarly tree trunks
not like us... night-black, swift and sleek,
some women, son, thought they were hunks.
Yeah, said to produce fine fit bucks...

Mother's Day 2024
Today is Mother's Day of 2024.
But you died and you can't celebrate Mother's Day anymore.
You were a wonderful mother and I'm your youngest son.
You died eleven years ago in 2013 when I was forty-one.
You were a kind and giving person and that is a fact.
Being generous was a trait that you sure didn't lack.
It broke my heart and it was painful when you passed away.
Even though you're dead, I wish you a happy Mother's Day.

Ode to Will.
O how we ache to ape your dexterous pen
from home to academe and beyond,
advertising addiction, once again
fat-witted, keyless to your fairylands.
We've compacted with devils, pilgrimaged
to the dual new place of birth and death,
become churchlike there, there to be amazed
to breathe air holding mem'ry of your breath.
Enrapt to hobnob where you, honeytongued,
for such gossip I'm a wanton glutton
enhoped to have pen and my words reyounged
to your age, to be kissed with your atoms,
Still sparkling nigh...

Freedom from trump day
The freedom from trump day, hip hip hooray,
one hundred thousand times trump pled the fifth
This is the day that trump gets put away,
' Mob bosses plead the fifth ' trump used to say
now trump's getting stripes " just lookit de width"
this freedom from trump day, hip hip hooray.
It's about time the law of land held sway
and all thanks are due to crazy Jack Smith
this is the day that trump gets put away,
They'll put trump in a cage throw the key away
it's sure going to ruin his Teflon myth,

The Midnight Shift.
My Great-great-grandfather...
" There warra tip by Miggy wood
dug out o Miggy mine
an it were girtly big, like a mountain stood,
an it smouldered all the time.
(belching sulphurous fumes reeking of hell )
Coals were mined there since ancient days
people lived, worked there and died,
and a village grew and was known as Middleton
cos it grew twixt pit and slag-pile ...

Attempting to journal again for the first time in so very many years…
It just all starts to crumble when my daughter’s fiance comes home from work in the afternoons. They will go into their bedroom to be alone together for the rest of the night, which is clearly understandable and something I want to be able to give them without annoyance or interruption or being a burden…
But then, I am alone.
I have my interests to keep me busy… But I am mentally ill, and when left alone, my thoughts can travel to dark places.
I am 50 now. Still struggling with...

Rest In Peace, Hazel - Part III
It's been three months since the day when you died.
You were a wonderful dog and that can't be denied.
I remember the day when I bought you.
When you died, it was a terrible thing to go through.
I became a lucky man when your former owner sold you to me.
You were my Chihuahua and I bought you on August 18, 2020.
When you died, it was something that was sure to devastate.
You were my dog and that's something I'll always appreciate.

Rest In Peace, Mom - Part VII
Wednesday was your least favorite day and you died on a Wednesday.
After living for sixty-four years, you became sick and you passed away.
The eleventh anniversary of your death is on your least favorite day of the week.
I thought things were fine at first but then I learned that your situation was bleak.
When you went to the hospital, you had to go under the knife.
The surgeon tried his very best but he could not save your life.
He operated on your stomach and your leg had to be amputated.
But you still died and when I found you dead, I was devastated. ...

(my) Nymphs Reply To The Shepherd
Since all the world and love is one
and truth issues from your glib tongue,
and maiden's wiles your chance improve
I'll live with you and be your love.
And I shall dance and your words sing
for your delight, each gay morning,
and be your muse though nag you so
you Will outwrite that upstart crow!
But I'd rather have a divan bed
than those roses that you have said,
you forgot the thorns, I suppose,
they'd not do much for our repose...
And I'm not sure 'bout those hard rocks
so pull...

Mother of all Feasties
In days of Yore when knights were bold
and shopping was mostly, local,
the huswifes chores or so I'm told
we're pretty much all, in total...
She'd scrub and boil and mend and make
and grub out the mangle wurtzles,
and mill and milk and brew and bake
and make soup from poor dead turtles.
She'd brew and bake with Godisgoode
those indigenous wild yeasties,
that can be found world round my loves
to make the Mother of all, feasties...
