as a child of the 1970's

the most up-to-date data,
at my fingertips,
current to the early sixties,
made all the more accessible

such a whimsical word

On any given Summer's day
I'd forego outside play

to find my own feet
is a constant battle for balance
checking my gut...
against what's actually heard
here's the thing that's hardest
{for me}
when they speak...
what do they really mean
& what's no more...
than muffled echoes
grating against my sensitive scars
{sandpaper grit over sunburnt skin}
how do I listen
...with clarity
letting my damage feel protected
while I strive to hear reality
because with unintentional filters...
...everything is affected

I'll bare mine...
my revelations of expansion
what I've discovered
so far
bullet points...if you will
though by no means...the full spectrum
~~~
I'm strong enough to handle almost anything
...but I don't have to do it all alone
it's okay to ask for help
~~~
being accepted as I am...is beautiful
..but as is...isn't enough for me
I will always strive for further evolution
~~~
if I tend to all his needs...without seeing to mine ...
My Hardware Life - 1
Ding, ding!
customer drives in
to pickup heavy, bulky,
generally unwieldy
already purchased merchandise
I manage the muscle men
tasked with hefting
countless, fifty-pound bags of cement
twenty-five-pound bags of rock salt
and lighter bags of stuff for gardening
redwood compost, potting soil, additives to condition your dirt
one must be careful to carry the pungent manures,
steer and more odiferous chicken at arm's-length
so you don't risk spending
the rest of your day
wearing a super smelly shirt
in memory forever
some accusations stain
misunderstood...badly translated
it's hard to explain
why can't you just accept it
let yourself be loved
it's complicated
& painfully simple
but I don't know where to start
once upon a time...
{not so very long ago}
...as the story goes
I loved like a warrior
ardent & unrelenting
...but in full armor
poured my love into their open hands
giving them everything I am
beautifully...
Unsolicited Fortune Teller
Sitting in Sunday school class
with a group of high school friends
all of us the same age
but I was a grade behind
our teacher spoke of careers
we might pursue
after graduating school
he was in computer sales
working for Big Blue
my dad, an Electrical Engineer
just happened to work there too
when the instructor
began suggesting jobs each of us could do
to one, “you'd be an excellent programmer”
to another “a top -notch chip designer”
because of their mathematical acuity
and to me he says,
Becoming...
I’ve been here before.
In the shadows of doubt,
Where dreams are whispered, not shouted,
Where the weight of yesterday presses so hard,
It suffocates the breath of tomorrow.
But I’ve learned…
That growth doesn’t happen in comfort zones,
It happens in the cracks of your heart,
When you step out, stretch wide,
And dare to grow in the places you’ve never dared to see.
It’s like this:
The seed, buried in the dirt,
Doesn’t dream of the sun,
It feels the pressure of the earth,
Of everything trying to hold it down. ...
Growing Old
Growing old never seemed so bad.
Sure, I pretend to moan and dread,
My knee buckles and my back knots.
Yet it’s another year of being alive.
Growing old is a privilege,
As another year around the sun
Marks another year of growth.
What else are we here for?
Growing old is a privilege,
Growing old together is a luxury.
Growing old never seemed so bad.
Yet I mourn the years we’ve lost to fate.
Like a new book too precious to read—
Too scared to see how many chapters are left.
But...
I am reminded...
of all the days I longed to run away
how funny is that
grown ass adult having fantasies of escape
find a little place on the side of a mountain
just me {& my cats}...
no cars or fights
or gunshots across the street
just the whispering rumors of wind
& gossipy titters of birds in the trees
nobody to notice if I remain mute
when the only person around is me
alternatively...
I could mouth off whenever I want
...who's going to protest
lately I've had this crazy idea...
Perpetual Seeker
I don’t know” is the challenge
a return to childlike innocence
“I don’t know, but I’ll find out” is challenge accepted
awakens the inner detective, researcher, puzzle solver
“To the best of my knowledge” is the reward
praying that my curiosity hunger is never satisfied,
that my thirst for knowledge never abates
that my honest lack of education
will forever supersede my pride
knowing everything, where’s the fun in that
a return to childlike innocence
How Much Do We Actually Know?
What do we actually know about nature?
The things we know are what we conceive them to be.
How much do we actually know?
We don’t have accurate knowledge about everything we claim to know.
Misleading information exists everywhere.
How can we tell whether the things we know are true or false?
Some people seek knowledge about many things.
Others just want to know enough to get by.
We should not believe only what we see.
Many things exist beyond our knowledge.
Not everything we know is worth knowing. ...
Excuse me.
Excuse me!
EXCUSE ME!!!
Yes you. I have a question to ask.
Why does it take several times for you to respond to me?
You can't answer that
I know why...
It's because your head is buried into that device they call a smartphone
It seems that your compulsive behavior with this machine is creating a barrier amongst others
Sure you may have loads of friends online, but you can't truly see, feel or hear them
Your "friends" are not really your "friends"
Is it that necessary to refresh your post...
