Pirate Silver, Devil’s Flame
- Pirate Silver, Devil’s Flame -
Off the starboard bow, there was an isle black as sin,
Where many a wrecked vessel lay, in graves silently!
I saw the fire at the isle’s heart, and what lay within…
But dare not put to words the sight, or give it dignity.
Was it Hell I beheld, when I seized the silvery hoard?
Nay, but there were many devils we slew to claim it!
The lads made fast to place the ancient riches aboard,
And now we sail for port and home, with hearty wit…
But lo, for there the lookout spies another ship, ahoy!

A Governor's Daughter
- A Governor's Daughter -
A.k.a. "I Was a Sailor"
I was a sailor: who ventured across Caribbean seas,
And 'neath our cruel black flag, the Devil to please...
My hearty crew took a prized ship of the line so fair.
But ne’er so great a prize as a maid with golden hair!
Her heart lusty and fierce; she became my first mate,
A governor's daughter: seeking a more perilous fate.
She loved me like a storm and we sailed together oft,
And it is her hand, which hoists the Jolly Roger aloft!

The Final Voyage of a Pirate
Colorless, is the evening gloom, as I ponder by the shore…
Thinking thoughts of when we sailed on the wine-dark seas.
I cannot bear that there could be no adventure ever more…
As I hear a solitary gull, which is alone despite all its’ pleas.
Golden treasure, and lusty maids, but none so fair as thee…
Oh when didst thou depart, to climes where goddesses go?
I shall wait here for thee my love; oh I shall wait by the sea!
Our ship shall surely put in to port, when gentle winds...

Further
Merry Pranksters on the long highway
Their bus, named "Further," shining bright
Loudspeakers planted on the roof
With the sound of Hendrix and The Doors
Hell's Angels followed close behind
Their motorcycles an uproar
Crowds listened to their bikes rumble
With gravel spurting in their wake
Pranksters and Angels found our park
Poured "Electric Kool-Aid" in a bowl
The hippies drank and had their fill
A taste of LSD that turned them on
Pranksters danced until twilight
Then took "Further" on the road

Elena Salniker Waller: Family History
A name I was given that is derived from Helen, meaning the bright one and
The shining light. Beautiful like Helen of Troy, but I was named after my
Dad’s cousin Helen Greenberg Palkes, who went back to school and got her
Degree. She never gave up her dream of working with kids. I always stand
Proudly alongside her although she is no longer here, but I will always try
To let her legacy live on inside of me years later. She never let anyone deter
Her from what she was meant to do just because she was a woman ahead of

A Short Life and A Merry One

A.k.a. Pirates of the High Seas
A harbor town upon the coast, there to see…
We arrived, a rough and ready old company.
A galleon was ours, docked out in the bay…
And so we set sail on some fair summer day.
The sands were white, and the sky was blue,
When we set sail, all brave lads for our crew.
And I, the captain, did give voice to set sail…
As we went seeking our fortune, ne’er to fail!
Upon the waters of the hot Caribbean clime,
Where lay treasure untouched for all of time.
So drink up, me...

Blackbeard’s Final Battle
Prelude – A Long Way from Bristol
A long way from Bristol, have I sailed and roamed…
In search of gold and glory, across seas that foamed,
When storms did rock; and men did cower all in fear.
How much greater their terror as my ship sailed near!
From Providence to America my course was plotted,
By some divine navigator that had my destiny spotted.
No way to go back to some simpler time, and regret,
For I’ve done too much, and the enemy won’t forget!
I could have settled down with...

Minor to miner looking for an angel
The dead man
Lived in a tent
He had no family
He had no friends
He died alone on his lonely strip of land
A smile on his face and scars on his hands.
Few knew the truth
He was just a weirdo, a joke and a folk tale
Seventy four years mining
He started as a minor
A child removed from school
Prospecting for Gold
He was a labourer for his dad
The Welshman who went to America to become better
He was a respected coal miner
He had learned in the tavern of a local legend of hidden gold in the mountains
He had a...

Can we guess how hard that road to tread
to where the seeds of inspiration lead
the cramp before you spread your wings
the stones they threw of words that sting
The civil rights of Black and White
Wikipedia I read between the lines
a resume that few can match
of sparks that flew to ring the change in time
From modesty the caged bird fledge
but not to fly but to sing instead
challenge them and shake the world
born again not once but three or four
Cap and gown tread the halls renowned
the doctorates...

Occidental Atlantis
As a pineal intention spell did ignite this mind wonder
Raising dark thinking light as the sorcerer's wiz under
Such pituitary conception of the dream drawing fates,
-
As our ship lands upon an illusional mountain range
So in a 12-year grace, thus to spin the zodiacal maze,
-
Order of the Helmet to in circle upon a mystic's ring
Baconian inlay, a mysterious Greek chorus then sing,
-
This intellectual Republic card now as magicians play
Such charm bird of mental flight still soaring this day
Their invisible college placed...
