Poems about Death
#death
The broad subject of death, including grief and memorial poems when losing a loved one. Also concepts around death in wider society, fear of dying and what happens after we die. These poems may be dark and full of sorrow.

Two Minutes Silence (8th May 2025)
VE Day
A time to remember
As images flash through my head
Documentaries of WWII
The death camps
Abuses, and rapes
Bombings
Broken families
Broken lifes
Starvation
And even cannabalism
Perhaps the bigger tragedy
Is that 80 years later
All the above is being repeated
Time, and time again
A pandemic
Of lost souls
In fruitless, futile wars
Empty promises
And brutality

Willow
Even amongst dysfunction,
there was love
The way a single spark engulfs
into an uncontainable wildfire
Carried on the winds of madness,
breathes of wild, passionate,
vivid love burned
And even after the carnage,
beneath the wreckage,
there were ashes of love
Desolate wasteland of life cut short
potential and growth withered to an abrupt standstill
All that was and could have been released, returned to the cosmos to begin anew
A field of dreams rendered to dust
The memories, still, they singe
For the loss of...

Lauryn's Passing
Letter to Lauryn's poetry friends.
It grieves me to share this with one of Lauryn’s writing communities. She shared her writing on this site with me though I’m only now reading into the past of her life. I loved Lauryn very much and, even though we recently parted, it crushed me to learn of her death.
Our time together was a time of healing for both of us. She seemed to always be living near death and her writing I’ve looked at so far confirms this. Her life took a negative turn after she and I separated but that seems to be the pattern she’s followed for several...

From beginning to end
Thanks for the blessings of a second chance at life 🙏 for it's true that tomorrow isn't a promise for no one to be able to see another day 😞 YET it is necessary to understand, that there will be more bad or good times in your own life 🤔 For sure you must appreciate and cherish, those special moments that you have to live 💕 For it's been so much nonsens, happening in the world till we got family's against family, till we slowly start to wonder 🤔 is it better to die or live for it seems that love doesn't live here anymore 😔 For sure it's a very...

Butterfly Moon
I see sister moon,
in the sky
Through the eyes,
of a fading butterfly
Twilight arises,
stars begin to shine
Echoes of the lost,
a never ending shrine
I see sister moon,
in the sky
Through the eyes,
of a fading butterfly
The night sky,
now a soft velvet blue
Rare is a heart,
as beautiful as you

Punch Drunk
Woke up coughing for whatever reason I can't get up
Each eyelid seems to weigh a ton, what the fuck
There seems to be a fallen building right on top of me
My breathing is painful, labored, and my voice is raspy
"Hello" is continuously forced out with no response
My eyes are slowly pried open, they hit my cheeks and brow, and they bounce
I find myself looking up at a ceiling that is totally unfamiliar
The scent is foul as hell, smothering, and it isn't familiar
Where am I and why can't I move or get up
Has all the...

IRONIC EXISTENCE
Ironic – isn’t it…?
The ver essentials we need to survive
Are the same essentials that endanger and destroy us!
The very same people we love
Are the same loved ones we hurt or hurt us –
The very same life occurrences and events
That cause us to smile and laugh
Are the same occurrences and events that cause tears and humiliation!
Ironic – isn’t t…?
The same life we cherish and deem of priceless worth
And we hold fast to never foresee its end
Is the same life we mis-care for and waste
Toss aside and risk and gamble away

Journey to the Stars
I borrowed the titles of her poems to reflect
To connect
Wondering why the universe took her away
so soon
But I’m still in awe
Admiring the mystery
Marveling at the beautiful poetry shared…
Maybe we’re all meant to meet at these crossroads
Make impressions in each other‘s lives
So that when our time arrives
We’ll be able to contemplate the meaning of it all
And we can say
We were poets in the time Eerie
Right before she took on her journey to the stars

Tangible dreams
There was a flower today,
Blooming beside where we used to play.
The first,
Since you passed away.
If you weren't who you were,
Unrestrained and revelling,
Amongst all of life's temptations.
You could be Eve,
Were summer to turn and leave.
Though then as now,
You'd bear no guilt.
It stands two tangs towards the sky,
And you'd,
Aptly rub along the back,
Of a pitch forked,
Branching tree.
Instead,
It rises where you lay,
Turning you,
Back towards a stretching sky.

They tell me that I perished
They tell me that I perished
But I've never felt more alive
And the warmth of your presence
Still lingers in my mind.
I ventured longer than an arm -
Beyond the dim horizon -
Further than a murky quasar
Yet less than a prayer's span.
When you stop to think of me -
When tears can't help but fall -
Know that it's okay to grieve
And let them wash your soul
Then look up and say a prayer -
Since words have power of flight -
I'll catch it at heaven's shore -
Think of you - smile and sigh.
But I've never felt more alive
And the warmth of your presence
Still lingers in my mind.

concrete ideas
the idea of a love
existing after life
reuniting lost hearts
through dimension and time
carved into a trunk
etched into the block
arteries spooning the initials
of souls intertwined eternally
but wood will rot
and stone will weather
what will lie in wait
if love begins to break
as the earth gently shakes
and concrete blocks begin to crumble away

through dimension and time
carved into a trunk
etched into the block

of souls intertwined eternally
but wood will rot
and stone will weather

To The Ends
maybe in the end is where we reach clarity
anger
depression
whatever emotions may be
perhaps it’s the fire we feel burning through
the resolution
and resolve
the final door when we find the key
I won’t pretend to know
or at least guess the answer
all I understand is that…
accepting one’s fate may be the hardest thing
because all we can do is watch
when others take on a journey to the stars
after they receive their wings
