I Still Don't Like Kerouac, Papa
When your father dies of an opioid overdose,
your stepmother will call
at 1:27pm on a gray and freezing January afternoon.
She can't articulate much of anything,
or you can't hear much of anything
or all words are caught and suffocated into a quantum vortex
because you can't remember being told
"your father is dead, and he died from an opiate overdose,"
you only remember suddenly knowing, as the truth
rises from its depression cave
stretches its long limbs,
complains about its back,
puts on thermal long johns, ...

The Collection of Souls
From the fiery gates where sulfur reeks,
And cursed winds whisper, the darkness speaks.
Demons emerge, with talons stained,
Hunters of souls, by sin profaned.
They slither through cracks in the earthly shell,
Bringing forth ruin, a taste of hell.
A tire blown, a bridge that sways,
A home consumed by vengeful blaze.
Every accident, each cruel design,
A snare for the wicked by infernal line.
Yet mankind, oh fools, make their task so light,
Their greed and wrath a beacon in night.
Contracts inked in blood are signed, ...

I read the word chiseled on that headstone. I have always wondered if that was meant to be the noun “Beloved” or the adjective. Or maybe it was intended to be “Be-Loved.” One or two words, different meanings, different pronunciations, I can never tell.
I kneel on the damp ground on that cold December day, the same day of every year for the past eleven years. The day I lay my wreath and wait.
After sunset she comes on exactly that single day of the year. She kneels next to me holding one single rose in her hand and lays it next...

Moonchild
All you ever fed me was cruelty and pain,
Starving, I consumed every morsel,
every drop I drank.
Instructed to stay quiet,
Mind my manners and never speak.
Never decline what’s been requested,
And never appear displeased.
Always take what I am gifted
With a smile upon my face.
And the only expressions permitted to be given
Are those of gratitude and thanks.
Every day, with words and fists like blades,
You cut away my meat.
“That frown is gonna cost ya honey,
You have three seconds to show those teeth
Do...

2024 November Poems >> i fathom not why He should choose the least

i fathom not why He should choose the least
an awe-inspired confessional
Remembering Eerie
“It is not death that a man should fear,
but he should fear never beginning to live.”―Marcus Aurelius
i wonder if it's almost time to die,
because my bloom is as the century palm
whose shoot with fragrance paints the evening sky
of spikenard, for its withering of calm.
am i the thornbird with his sweetest song, ...

I’m Going To Die of Lung Cancer
Woke up dreams in my head
I didn't realize I was dead.
In the dream, I was three,
Why’s that lady touching me?
Then i was a eight years old,
blood dripping in dirty white snow.
Laying on Doctors table,
Stiching my nose, staying quite stable.
At thirteen became a man,
Parents fighting, couldn't understand.
Dad walks out it was winter,
He would never come back for mom’s dinner.
Made it into an art school,
Played harmonica , felt so cool.
Liked girls, but...

Song of the Gypsy (I am Evil)
Song Of The Gypsy
By Robert C. Ray Jr.
1)I feel her blood squirting between my teeth. Bones splintering. The taste of her life force and sound of her screams were intoxicating. As I sucked she fell limp. Her trachea? Collapsed, and the arousal became so pleasing, so utterly thrilling that I almost choked. I became supercharged with an undeniable energy. The taste, the screams, what does all of this mean? I only lurk in the moonlight. The song of the Gypsy echoes mysteriously in my dreams. I disappeared into the shadows as her soul left her lifeless body. I am evil.

My love lost until then ...
Endlessly I walk through a blinded dream
Where are you now my darling.
I miss you every minute of everyday,
it seems so long that you have been gone,
I wonder If I saw you again,
Would my name still linger or would it be forgotten to your lips?
Would time have made us strangers?
Could our love be the same as it once was? Would you reach out and hold my hand if we are reunited once more,
Please save me as I slowly slip into a puddle of my tears and drown in despair, ...

The Dancer
Once upon a time on a planet that was mostly harmless and sometimes blue, there was a dancer. She had been a dancer since a tiny sprout with limbs that fluttered in the breeze of life and love. Her feet had learned the alphabet of steps before her mouth mastered the language of her people. She lived, oh how she lived, every moment of her life in the moment, celebrating her body and the poetry of movement that was her birthright and her voice.
Her dance was a prayer, an act of love, a rebellion against the stillness of death that loomed like a shadow over portions of the world. She...

To Sleep In The Forest Fatale
People whisper the stories
They don’t know if they are truth or lie
About the dark forest not so far away
Where the old people go to die
Some say demons await
Others say angels are there
There is talk of outer space beings
And lore of a man eating bear
The fact to which all can agree
Is that those who travel its ground
Who go there to sleep the long good night
Not a one has ever been found
What I have known as life is in the past
I am in the twilight of what has been...

Last Dance
Life’s taught me plenty. I've danced through years with laughter and tears and loved a lot. Men have come and gone, like seasons, each one leaving a mark, a memory, or taking a piece of my heart. But now I’m staring down the end of my road. The doctor's words hit hard. “It’s terminal," he said. “Soon, you’ll grow weak as the cancer grows and you’ll lose control of your body. We can keep you comfortable but you only have weeks left.”
I cried. Fear gripped me. I knew there wasn’t anything after this this life, just a void. I used to believe in heaven but that fell away long...
