Poetry about Books

Poetry about books, here you'll find poems about, or inspired by, books. Poems about the power of words and books to influence, move and inspire. Poetry by avid readers of books and those for whom a book, or books, have had a profound influence over their life, and their writing.
cliches are occasionally allowed
like to be alone, so why go to the
pub to sit there quietly with a
book ? because you’re “never more
alone than in a crowd.”

Book of Life
My hair
is being pulled
by the winds
of time
Stories
once written
in this book
of life
For every
other page
there’s a
raging storm
The paper
soaking wet
raining tears
that transform
These chapters
of my life
that I made
it through
Lessons
repeated
until I found
the truth:
I am
the author
I see all
the patterns…
That day
the
hourglass
shattered
is being pulled
by the winds
of time

memories of ourselves
rarely re-read books that meant a great deal to me once, fearing if I did
I might not feel them quite as much, and yet they still remain on my shelves

We Are Poets
We scribe more than words,
We orchestrate emotions and feelings
to a single coherent thought which ignites
the imagination, a legacy for all of man.
In the beginning we pasted the walls of caves
with pictures, glifs and marks.
some of the oldest scriptures in the world
are written by the wisest of their age.
The translation of notion to words are
unselfish and given freely, originating masterpieces
to touch and heal the world
in a way like no other.
Creating lullabies for the restless souls,

the car buisness
Automobile industry
At the seaside, the water signaled many colors
pale sober gin, dark hue, then bottle green and pink like a nursery rhyme
no one took notice the sea was warning of a disaster.
It began in the late afternoon when the sun felt tired but hesitated to sink beyond the horizon
So much more to see, and the night lasted until six in the morning.
The cars by the seaside started all at once and
headed towards the bay and into the sea
the bottom of the bay was smooth, and many cars were able to drive far before they drowned, but the...

Guilty Pleasure
I’ll always have a place in my heart
for Agatha Christie because
her books made an unhappy childhood
that little bit brighter.
It’s true she never wrote
a Pulitzer Prize contender,
that her stories are full
of plywood aunts, red-faced colonels,
and such. But she was shrewder than
she often was credited for,
and besides, she not once overstepped
the boundaries of her simple craft.
Pleasures like this might be guilty,
but also innocent, a paradox
that not even Poirot could have resolved.

loved the “just william” books
if I’d been in the outlaws I’d have been douglas or henry, rather than william, or ginger, because, put quite simply, I was never a leader ..

One More Book
I answer her question with a rambling joke.
Do I have a plan in place?
Nah.
I'm too easily distracted.
Knowing me,
I'd be about to go through with killing myself
but there would be one last book I'd want to read.
Or one more poem I'd want to write.
One more place to see.
One more topic to research...
One more gelato flavor to try.
One more sexual experience to have.
One more cause to help.
If i had any common sense
I might end my life.
But there's always one more book. ...

Oak and Pulp
The muses turned polite, demure,
illiterate Tudor wives declaring books
a common thing. And so too pure
their patrons became, casting looks
at plot, suspense, and imagination,
declaring themselves too good
for such base ribaldry. The sleek quotidian
replaced, as pulp was brought from wood
and sold like hotcakes in a cold climate.
The genre tsars grew rich, as oak sellers
became bitter and pondered on their fate,
the bourgeois dearth on lists of bestsellers.
And so they started stealing tropes,
and said of course all great...

Troll
Reading “poison pen” mysteries
from the Golden Age makes
you realise how painstaking it was
to troll someone way back when.
Kids today don’t know they’re born.
In their grandparents’ day you had
to handwrite and make trips to the pillar box,
and keep your wits as wise as any fox…
just so your tongue could be let loose to wag,
and call the neighbour’s wife a slag.

Old Library Books
Sometimes even the most cherished
become something time has perished,
so next time you want a quick look
blow the dust off an old library book.
