On Her Birthday
Her girlfriends took her out Friday afternoon for her birthday
This was her 40th
That Sunday her & her husband were leaving for a Mediterranean Cruise
That was his gift to her
He was deeply in love with her
There was also a close bond between the two of them
About ten years ago she helped her husband overcome drugs & alcohol
He was hooked for years
Almost lost his job, family, house and his own life because of these addictions
It was tough for him
Many times he fell off but he persevered and kept on pushing forward

optimism
I'm in my quiet time when I don't have much to say
my soul rests in the shadows let others talk today
it's my birthday and I know time says I'm old
but inside I still feel young
I reach and touch the sky and exhale
sighing into the winds
my mind turns to you
lover over my honesty
you know me true
probably better than most
I wander the day without purpose or plan
I just want to be free
drift with the energy being a part of the day
but not driving it
I escape the moment sorrow walks my way ...

My birthday has become
a time of giving and serving
It's an exchange of gratitude
for another year of living
What better way to share
than providing a home
for a rescue kitty

WHAT REALLY MATTERS IN THE END?
I have walked on all
the Continents in
the world, all 50 States,
and lost count of the
countries I have visited.
I say this not to impress
but to share what I, not
anyone else, have learned.
It hit me right between
the eyes a few years ago
as I heard what a group
of wealthy men said in the
last days in the terminal ward;
soon to face death.
They were all rich and
among the who's who
in society. In their last days
they were asked what,
when looking back really
mattered?
Was it their yachts,...

My Better Angel
No femme fatale rocks a housecoat as well
as my beloved of thirty-five years,
since with it she bolstered me, truth to tell,
far beyond the phonemes of sonneteers
or any bunny in a magazine
shorn of their drapery mysterium
so notorious at setting the scene
for male gaze fever delirium...
which was always the wealth I truly craved
when often I had surplus love to spend
and she so fervent by that to be laved,
both inside and out, and at either end...
where even becoming fifty-seven
she comes across as a piece of heaven!
as my beloved of thirty-five years,

No Birthday
On March 22nd i
got a call from the
crematorium with
some protocols
day of cremation
of Ravi, my cat.
On March 23rd i
was called by my
mother she picked
a fight, fuck it why
begged her to stop
she didn't, i cried
no apps cards or
phonecalls for me
no birthday wishes
just a text with the
time of cremation
On March24th i
came home, box
of ashes in hands
on the bottom his
name and the day
i was born ♰ i never

reservations made
in the works for months
bringing your sweetie to you
she made a bucket list
& you were at the top
a homecoming...of sorts
revisit all the old haunts
going to Morey's & get your favorite fish
those special cheeses you always used to get
A&W with New York Vanilla ice cream floats
just like the old days...in better times
before everything changed in life
we were coming...I swear
but the universe had other ideas
so we had to pivot quickly

I’m sorry I didn’t write you a verse for your birthday, because unlike pros today I chose to compose and expose my verbose prose which feels like it goes all the way up to the elbows. Cendra's Birthday Parties
Cendra had an unusual last name
Skin shades darker than mine
Parents years older than most.
No siblings.
She was confident and self-assured.
Additional qualities I found exotic.
I liked being around her.
Her 11th (12th?) birthday was at Gooney Golf
There was a giant dinosaur at the entrance.
The last hole was an igloo.
Even if you missed, it captured your ball at the end.
Gone.
After miniature golf, we went back to Cendra's house for cake.
At her decree, we smeared frosting on our faces.
