October Poems 2024 >> the countdown
A poem for each day of the month in which I was born
October 07
the countdown
oneself must be abased in one’s own true eyes,
lest one should plummet swiftly from one’s blue skies.
twos days are opportune for dialoguing,
where oneself self-destructs on monologuing
treetops are ripe three-stops for those who journey
with friends, for one may need a rare attorney
to say, not left, nor right, but through the valley,
whose destination boasts a grand finale
four ever-young, the heart transformed by mercy, ...

October Poems 2024 >> october passions: was it because i loved my love so much?
A poem for each day of the month in which I was born
October 06
october passions: was it because i loved my love so much?
dark night, why do you ink my heart with gloom,
where light has been my meat by day and night?
your silences my appetite consume,
your bread of bitterness in every bite.
nor moon, nor star, nor meteor, nor flash,
to tease me with one flickering ray of hope;
nor stone on which my head fate does not bash;
nor noose that does not hang me with his rope.
was it because i loved my...

October Poems 2024 >> october praise
A poem for each day of the month in which I was born
October 05
october praise
a day of rest and gladness for my soul,
no toil of earth attendant on my breast,
i lie awake and watch the sunlight roll
out of the east, to kiss the mountain crest.
i hear a joyful sparrow court the morn
with airs he has rehearsed the whole night long;
his tremolos the concert hall adorn,
their latitude resplendent with glad song.
the pine trees worship, stately, in their march
to fetch pine cones above the...

slight change of plans...
we had a plan
reservations made
in the works for months
bringing your sweetie to you
she made a bucket list
& you were at the top
a homecoming...of sorts
revisit all the old haunts
going to Morey's & get your favorite fish
those special cheeses you always used to get
A&W with New York Vanilla ice cream floats
just like the old days...in better times
before everything changed in life
we were coming...I swear
but the universe had other ideas
so we had to pivot quickly

October Poems 2024 >> love and let live
A poem for each day of the month in which I was born
October 03
love and let live
ambassador of forest, flow’r, and stream,
and bird with sweet songs, wooing wise the wind,
i am a delegate of high esteem,
whose gazette leaves no natural source behind.
if you would move a mountain or a tree,
or freak a feather from a floating wing,
i give judicial judgement, senza fee,
that you may know the measure of my zing:
my parliament, convenient couch to none
who stirs the sleeping lion out of turn,
or aggravates...

October Poems 2024 >> the leap of faith
A Poem for Each Day of the Month in Which I was Born
October 02
the leap of faith
sweet wednesday morn, hopeful, by light of day,
to maximise from minimum its charm,
teach me to fashion wisdom from my clay.
and could i to a blade of grass bring harm,
knowing how delicate and brief his hour,
what, then, could my sobriety defend,
when foxes my own soul seek to devour?
the ebon shades of night may yet portend
a spirit of delusion and regret,
but youthful verve bears buffer in its chide ...

October Poems 2024 >> unfettered
A Poem for Each Day of the Month in Which I was Born
October 01
unfettered
october morn, the dawning of the age,
flush falling leaves and chilly weather spar
for pride of place with sentinel and sage.
oktoberfested images bizarre
of hallowentine masks and secret charms,
pieces of eight, yet tentative, yet blind,
yet hesitant to trigger false alarms.
fair evidence of spring not hard to find,
where white light, kissing hard the southern sphere,
slants more autumnal where the north winds blow, ...

Twenty-nine plus One
Throughout my life, and dare I say,
Throughout the life of many people
You learn a bit, though day-by-day
That God does not need church or steeple
‘Tis us! Tis us that needs the show:
The marbled halls, the colored glass
The Doric columns, the hope of Rome;
All vying for the very last;
Now think of God: what comes to mind?
What ears grow open to the blind?
What thinks the thinker?
What thinks the youth who yearns for truth?
What thinks the aged who’s heard it all?
What think the one who doesn’t know;
Or...

This Is Where Reality Kicks In
Dad
had gone
over to
Judy's place in
order to drive her
back home for her birthday
celebration. But when he
got there, his eyes had grown wide at
the sight of his baby girl naked
and being humped by some guy in bed.

When Felicity Got That One Tee Shirt For Her Birthday
When Felicity
got that one tee shirt for her
birthday, she thought it
was funny. But then, she woke
naked and on top of Shawn.

I Need To Get This Portrait Done And Home
Just
paint the
portrait and
stop staring at
my tramp stamp. I need
to get this portrait done
and home. My husband's birthday
is tonight and I want
to surprise him with...! Are you taking
your clothes off? You've got the wrong idea.

Thirtieth
Sitting here pondering my thirtieth,
When I feel as if 50 lifetimes have passed
Just in the last decade
No one tells you when you leave home
What you must forfeit
Not that I would have made a different decision
But maybe I would have not done them so quietly
So independently
It’s lonely to know no one has known you in all of your phases
Only parts of what you understood at that time
some villainess, some heroic
Most not even knowing yourself
Or what you long for
Or what you’re trying to find
What is authenticity ...
