October Poems 2024 >> and dream this is a dream
October Poems 2024
A poem for each day of the month in which I was born
DAY 28
and dream this is a dream
i cannot seem to go another mile,
but i will struggle on, till fully spent
of all my sweat and tears and mercantile.
the arrows that i daily circumvent
are undeterred by stealth or camouflage;
yet, if i could just make it to the bend,
i’d get beyond the infernal sabotage
with which by night and day i must contend.
but what if i could reach the river pass,
and drag myself across the bamboo bridge: ...

October Poems 2024 >> give me to drink
A poem for each day of the month in which I was born
\
DAY 30
give me to drink
give me to drink
of mornings of bright sunshine
spilling over hills and plains.
stand on the brink
of pleasance gushing forth, wine-
coloured, full of sweet refrains.
give me to drink
of bird songs full of whistle,
pipe, and tube and reed and horn
in perfect sync
to celebrate earth’s istle
with the anthems of the morn.
give me to drink
of laughter of riant children
of a summer afternoon,
regaled by pink ...

October Poems 2024 >> though here i die
October Poems 2024
A poem for each day of the month in which I was born
DAY 19
though here i die
i am an iamb
deep down in my heart,
yet you ask why am
i falling apart!
i’ve been the storm man
on rocky paths thrown,
yet i know i can,
where eagles have flown.
bitter the dewdrops
i milk from harsh soil,
yet there are few drops
from which i would coil.
sweeter the moments
hope promises me,
yet all life’s torments
must first bruise the knee.

October Poems 2024 >> frag M ents
A poem for each day of the month in which I was born
DAY 17
frag M ents
the fragments of a broken love
cut sharper than a polished silver sword;
in futile efforts to reprove
its wrong, such love has never faith restored.
the fragments of a broken heart
must bleed their splattered raindrops, till the pool,
vext with the surge of plasmic quartz,
explodes upon the night sky, swift and cruel.
the fragments of a broken life
find ether in the painlessness of death,
whose crypt knows naught of human strife, ...

October Poems 2024 >> mercy drops of rhyme
A poem for each day of the month in which I was born
DAY 18
mercy drops of rhyme
you said you needed me:
i came with haste to save your burning parish;
yet, in our repartee,
i said i needed you, you make me perish.
yet must i still have you,
e’en if you fain must be the enemy:
my dark-place rendezvous
you brighten with concordant disarray.
better a broken dream
that nightmares into fragments a la carte,
or yet a midnight scream,
than continence that grinds our gears apart.

October Poems 2024 >> curtain call
A poem for each day of the month in which I was born
DAY 21
curtain call
are you your own damn hero?
blow your horn!
his magnitude is zero,
whose the scorn
of lesser earthbound creatures,
who from toil
erect life’s grandest features
from mere soil.
is wealth your gloomy terror?
nuisance!
it is a fiscal error
to advance
your borrowed, transient substance
in the face
of bigotted reluctance
to embrace
naught of the vacant posture
of the lean. ...

October Poems 2024 >> unfettered
A Poem for Each Day of the Month in Which I was Born
October 01
unfettered
october morn, the dawning of the age,
flush falling leaves and chilly weather spar
for pride of place with sentinel and sage.
oktoberfested images bizarre
of hallowentine masks and secret charms,
pieces of eight, yet tentative, yet blind,
yet hesitant to trigger false alarms.
fair evidence of spring not hard to find,
where white light, kissing hard the southern sphere,
slants more autumnal where the north winds blow, ...

October Poems 2024 >> broken
October Poems 2024
A poem for each day of the month in which I was born
DAY 27
broken
if e’er the broken vessel
could bear the healing balm,
i own me, then, the trestle
whose groans become the psalm.
a broken reed low bowing
beside a well-trod path,
passersby scarcely knowing
their whim has bared its wrath.
a honey bee flip-flopping
by one exhausted wing,
where idle boys, hip-hopping,
have trampled on its sting.

October Poems 2024 >> rainbow promises
October Poems 2024
A poem for each day of the month in which I was born
DAY 24
rainbow promises
i’ve had my fair share
of what is unfair:
make haste and get out of my city!
when lions went loose,
and flames cooked my goose,
nor did i not expire in self-pity.
i stood on the side
and watched others ride
their chariots with footmen to guide them;
blinded by their dust,
i bore their unjust
cold-shoulders, for tears could not void them.
i longed for a taste
of women so chaste
they knew...

October Poems 2024 >> unrequited love
A poem for each day of the month in which I was born
October 11
unrequited love
i am inclined, on impulse, to complain,
yet knowing i must be thankful once again:
it’s worse to be forgotten but not gone,
than gone and be forgotten with the dawn.
among the sweetest words i’ve ever heard
are those you’ve just upon my heart conferred.
caution is wisdom, though it bruise the soul:
swell oceans, where hot tears cannot console.
your eloquence could stand before a jury
and shatter my petition...

October Poems 2024 >> the heavens declare
A poem for each day of the month in which I was born
October 16
the heavens declare
i’m writing these poems for conflicts and wars,
that they may be read through the horns
that bellow out orders, in mesquite and thorns,
that deepen foul wounds and fresh scars.
i’m writing these poems for the hospital bed
that host broken bodies and minds,
to open closed curtains and roll back stiff blinds,
and give hope to those not yet dead.
i’m writing these poems for prison and cell,
where criminals plot while they wait, ...

October Poems 2024 >> love and let live
A poem for each day of the month in which I was born
October 03
love and let live
ambassador of forest, flow’r, and stream,
and bird with sweet songs, wooing wise the wind,
i am a delegate of high esteem,
whose gazette leaves no natural source behind.
if you would move a mountain or a tree,
or freak a feather from a floating wing,
i give judicial judgement, senza fee,
that you may know the measure of my zing:
my parliament, convenient couch to none
who stirs the sleeping lion out of turn,
or aggravates...
