Melancholia
A sadness within
does surely reside
ekes out its place
unwilling to hide
Forever overtaking
each fragment of thought
alone and isolated
desperate, distraught
Lost motivation
inspiration gone
lacking self-will
not carrying on
Shackles confine
repressed fears alive
escape not apparent
failing to thrive
Much is the plight
of a melancholic mind
critical illness
cruel and unkind
does surely reside
ekes out its place
unwilling to hide
Forever overtaking
each fragment of thought
alone and isolated
desperate, distraught
Lost motivation
inspiration gone
lacking self-will
not carrying on
Shackles confine
repressed fears alive
escape not apparent
failing to thrive
Much is the plight
of a melancholic mind
critical illness
cruel and unkind

Somber Season
Notice her skeletal hand
As she tugs the wine soaked curtains
See her dirty nails….
…..Or what’s left of them
For they’ve been chewed to the cuticle
I think she gave up long ago
When the seasons soured, she often wonders what went wrong
The renewal of spring, the sunny kiss of summer, the crimson and carmine of autumn, and winter’s pearlescent days
She never liked the cold, it consumed what little warmth was left
But there were angels in the snow, and that was enough for her
Four seasons have dissolved into a muddy river ...
As she tugs the wine soaked curtains
See her dirty nails….
…..Or what’s left of them
For they’ve been chewed to the cuticle
I think she gave up long ago

april songs (Theme 3): Attitudes of Life 10
april song 30—all my life (punto finale)
were all my days renumbered as the grains
of sand that on the ocean fringes pine,
i wonder what would be my remnant gains,
ere vibrant youth yields to life’s swift decline.
would all my lyrics wither with the dawn,
to cadence like the sacrificial fawn?
were all my life the lyrics of one poem
—a ballad of engaging latitude—
whose metaphors compelled bright stars to know ’em,
would death accord a lither attitude
to destinies my journey must fulfil
before earth silence...

april songs (Theme 3): attitudes of life 9
april song 29—all my love
frivolity doth not attend true love
that hath his own integrity to prove,
though all the world may crumble in the wake
of pledges that his humble soul doth make.
adam knew eve, as romeo juliet,
whose happy sleep was pale death’s sobriquet.
what tho i pledge my body to be burnt,
scant, still, the wisdom all my wits have learnt;
for human sacrifice falls short of breadth,
to substitute for love that knows no depth.
when i surrender all my love to God,
no glory find i in life’s blind façade.

april song 28—all my dreams
nightmares have spun my head a thousand years
across the violent slam of wild frontiers.
embattled though i reel from cloven hooves,
their effrontery my animateness proves;
for now i rule the saddle and the reins
that formerly have multiplied my pains.
now mollycoddled by a new life lease,
i pray that all my dreams shall find increase
as royal stallions buckle to my cause,
where old equestrian dreaming was faux pas.
i gallop with the wind beneath my wings,
my destination all...

My Love, My Darling
My love, my darling
All around me
For if I am a hill, my love is the
Smokey fog cascading over my body
My love, my darling
Holding me, like a single petal can hold dew
though I evaporate, my love will wait for morning
At dawn, I fall upon my lover’s lonely leaf
We talk about how perfectly precious
This moment is
My love and I are competing with time
It’s a sorry game to play
Because I know this feeling will blow away
It always does for me
I wish I could keep my love, my darling
In a locket around my...

april song 27—all my friends
the company i keep close to my breast
may hang about my neck—a human noose
that prematurely speeds my earthly rest,
unless, discretely, i should learn to choose
who occupies peripheral back seat
or dwells within my innermost retreat.
not all my friends may all my secrets share,
though many may pretend to wish me well.
too oft a circle morphs into a square,
exploding like a virtual bombshell.
may all my true friends glory in the thought
that i will love them, always, as i ought.

april songs (Theme 3): attitudes of life 6
april song 26—all my wealth
the crumbs of earth shall scatter at my feet,
should i ignore one who has nought to eat.
king lazarus shall walk on dives’ head,
if penury should leave the poor man dead.
for all my wealth is worth no more than trash,
though i may think it gives me great panache.
what is a life lived for myself alone,
while yet i leave the other man undone?
should he go naked, while i drape my robes
about me, blinding out the eye that probes?
for soon enough those very fingertips
may have to whet these parched...

april songs (Theme 3): attitudes of life 5
april song 25—all my pain
now let my heart rejoice in all its gain,
tho frequently life’s passions bring me pain
that in my helplessness i cannot mend.
tho stoutly i with confidence contend
with chains and shackles harnessing my will,
i shall triumphantly ascend my hill.
what though i be a diamond in the rough
epiphany shall greet me soon enough,
for all my pain shall wither at the source
when i am numbered with the great concourse.
my tears shall rivulet into a song
of joy to anthem me my whole life long.

april song 23—all my failures
success shall never cease, where failures suck;
only the dead finds succour in the muck
of circumstance that squeezes bitter lime
to rind ambitious men at harvesttime.
the bruises that i wear upon my brow
are evidences of my life’s powwow,
when all my failures stare me in the eye,
enticing me to buckle in the dye.
the fear of failure and the leap of faith
are steppingstones across the face of death;
no reticence ascends blue-mountain heights,
that flounders near life’s fountain of delights. ...

The Journey Within
Sometimes we look at the progress we’ve made
By looking at the things we were able to overcome
And sometimes we look back the road behind
Reflecting on the past so as to move forward
A thirty-day writing challenge is a journey within
It’s an exercise in indulgence and creativity
Setting personal goals of inspiration and discipline
So we can express ourselves honestly and freely
By looking at the things we were able to overcome
And sometimes we look back the road behind
Reflecting on the past so as to move forward
A thirty-day writing challenge is a journey within
It’s an exercise in indulgence and creativity
Setting personal goals of inspiration and discipline
So we can express ourselves honestly and freely

april songs (Theme 3): attitudes of life 2
april song 22—all my daring
in case you think i’m reckless or carefree,
let me redeem your grim ignominy:
‘tis all my daring keeps my faith alive,
and by my ceaseless struggles, i survive.
no stream has been too rough for me to cross,
nor any gain outclassed by any loss.
how pitiful the bird that folds the wing,
sulking inside his cage, when he could sing!
shall he not still regale his fleeting life,
than fall a hapless victim to his strife?
tho’ morning boasts its light and night its shade,
night-blindness need not all...
