Take that one chance and make it a great one
At a young age you were told "You have the whole world ahead of you to do what you like"
What do you do...Nothing. Most settle on what comes to them easily. Never striving for much more then the basics. It don't matter to you at the time. You have youth, energy, your having unprotected sex and hanging out with friends all the time. Life seems quite good, until you have to grow up.
At middle age you now think "I've should have done this to avoid that or to go this route instead of that route" You realize changes can be made but you become to content and set...

Just around the corner
The car crash
The bodies inside making silent history
The girl
Her head smashed into the steering wheel
Her beautiful face
Her skull
Her forehead caved in and purple
The woman next to her
Her body
Her gentle eyes filled with glass
Her unborn child, twisted inside, neck broken, back broken, small mouth open, full of black congealed blood
The five year old boy in the back seat

Dear Creator, we need to talk
Five days of constant pain
five days or wanting to break
the forth wall of reality
and talk to whoever thought
creating nerve endings
was a good idea
My body betrays me
I take meds for nausea
I take meds for pain
I sleep too much
and don't eat enough
five days of counting down
some unknown number
like there is a known solution
at the end of infinity
No one tells you
how time slows down
becomes infinity
with ad breaks
where maybe I can get up
go for a walk ...

I saw her today
so quiet
& soft
a somber ghost
of her former self
the pine trees
no longer whisper
& cold, black fingers
hold up a heavy
December sky
her heart lies fallow
born of Winter's burden
the blood pools like sap
in her limbs
& in her chest
& I see her die
her little deaths
knowing
the sun will rise again
without her
for her roots too

I don't want to battle with myself today,
with harsh emotions tangled within.
Disappointment in my eyes,
disasters in my mind,
the light at the end of the tunnel always dim.
