Love Gone
My worst dream never realized
happened before my eyes
Hide, fight, or flight
was suddenly understood
The meaning of these words
Tightly wound fists, set me afoot
Thought you never woulda,
sincerely if you ever coulda
Forced to expose you
suppressed emerging behavior restricting every breath, my heart snapped in two.
How did Normal everyday shit — morphed into
Catatonic shit — excised into
Armageddon shit?! SHI-IT!!—
Normality became my anxiety
Anxious for what would be or not be

Trauma's Scar
Some days, it feels like I can't breathe,
And I find myself asking that same question,
"Why did you leave?"
I think I always knew but never wanted to believe
That one day our love, I would grieve.
Most of the time, I feel alright,
But when the day surrenders to the night,
I also surrender to the fight.
Our demons don't need an invite,
They lurk in the places untouched by light,
Never far nor out of sight,
An unspoken vow to always reunite,
Even now as I write, I'm filled with dread,
Knowing we'll meet again...

the woman who read romance novels with happy endings
there’s an old episode
of Murder, She Wrote
about a woman
who by her own admission
reads only romance novels
with happy endings
but is beaten to death
by the bookseller
because she won’t leave
her violent husband
for him.
and I think how the show
is called “cosy”
with its light mystery
about which we know
that Lansbury
knows all,
or will.
sometimes I think of that lonely woman
who read kissing books to feel safe and as if
love lived somewhere beyond
the rotary and plastic...

Nekky's Story
I am his punching bag,
he punches me at will,
he punches me to vent his anger,
he does so to douse his frustrations.
He tries to regulate my emotions,
he entrenches himself fastidiously
in my life's branches.
My constant battery is his love's
justification.
To him, none else could care better,
not even my own sacrificial mum.
In my secular and public life,
his raging jealousy is hardly concealed.
I am his only mood swing's spectator,
I am enslaved by regular and
suicidal threats.
I must to his own will...

Like The Shower Scene From "Psycho"
While she was washing
the dirt off, Pamela heard
a crash and opened the door.
But before she reached
for that gun, someone grabbed her
arm and stabbed Pam seven times.

Women
I
Women are allowed to break oaths
professions sewn from hope
burn bridges to the ground
to make room for what counts
II
The problem with violence
is that it captures attention—
making it effective
When our bodies vibrate into action
we reach for reason
to hypnotize us
into balanced numbness

In my domestic violence exhibit
at the local library
one victim had written: ...

it's a memory now
they would yell
they would scream
they were fighting it out
she would hope
she would pray
she was waiting it out
sharp words
like knives
they were cutting her down
shattered glass
like the past
its a memory now
they would scream

A Possible Scene Of Home Invasion
Rebecca heard a
noise, went downstairs and saw one
of her students named
Jason stand naked in front
of her with a sharp steak knife.

.38 ways to say i love you
Its blackness shone as a terribly familiar contrast & that gaping maw
matched the pit of your eyes perfectly
I always did love those storm cloud eyes
even when they didn't belong to you
the earth still spun as our children slept
flimsy doors & drywall illusions
tucked them in each night
better than I ever could
& the only gift I had left to give them
was survival.... because love
wasn't enough
I watched the ghosts flit in & out
of a .38 (caliber) hole above a rickety ceiling fan
each clack of...
