Mary
Mary did not weep or know distress
bur sang a song of joy
just after she was told
in Gabriel's address
she’d quicken soon
because she’d be
by spirit and by overshading power won
and give birth to in nine month’s time
the Most High’s holy son.
She did not feel thereby
herself undone
or that her “yes” to Gabriel
was costly or against her will
constrained.
Instead, she praised the Lord
with ringing words, refrains,
that signaled she was raptured,

The Fear Stings
I passed away long years ago
and death gave me all that I posses,
a comfy berth free of rent and tax, though,
being incomeless that could induce some stress.
I have a box to keep my bones within
a roof composed of good old English turf,
and here I lie and the dead long day sing
of the second coming and my rebirth.
I have sang all the old songs, composed anew,
and still I lie and still I sing,
although the notes are now lower and few,
as my bones return to dust, the fear stings.

"Canoeing the Mountains"
They say that “the church” today
is like the Lewis & Clark expedition –
charting new territory,
exploring the ashes & ruins of Christendom,
finding a new route to the Great Commission…
it’s supposed to be inspiring.
Problem is, we’re not explorers at heart;
there’s not enough curiosity
and we never volunteered for this journey.
We thought we had already arrived.
Knew our map inside & out;
so convinced of its righteousness
we just slapped it onto the turtle’s back
without stopping to look
at the beauty of...

American Churches
A pastor Jim Schulz resides there.
The one we pass along the road
whose lettered sign deplores
excuse for sin, and extols grace.
My bland and musty Anglia faith
askance observes this Pentecostal wrath,
the churches like warehouses of the soul,
the Wal-Mart for your Christ-shaped whole.
We see five churches on one block,
some pillared and tall, and some very small,
and one a single office stuck between
a van rental and nail bar, it seems.
Religion’s as common as commerce out here,
competing with...

The Race
I keep waking up to this cane
I sit on the edge of the bed and peel these scabs off these wounds
And I start to cry, cause I know age is pushing in fast and I'm becoming so slow
But I Pray
I pray before I leave because ppl will stare and I'm the only one out here.
The train is coming
I see them watching me
I'm vulnerable and there Goal is to take advantage of it.
The train is coming
I can't run
but in my head
I'm running and I start to laugh
Because I'm as fast as a horse
And those two men can't catch me, because I'm...

Why Have I Become A Fallen Angel?
She got down on
her knees and
begged God to
say why he kicked
her out of Heaven.

begged God to
say why he kicked
her out of Heaven.
