Here's my Work in Progress, slowly decoding lyrics...
Grits - Not the Same
([high-low-high, high-low-low])
([high-low-high, high-low-high])
([high-low-high, high-low-low])
(oh oh, oh oh oh)
X2
Taken effect at this moment
simply symbolic is the best way
to sum it all up to a nice little paraphrase
dressed fresh as [the player days?]
[that offers the plays?]
high off life, [lemon dry shots?]
[can, gonna?] stop us for days
[metaphor for a, met up for a?] seemingly similar fate to a viewing public
haters who rate us or 'fraid us
soon they will grow to love it
the mind games I play with the [last loaf?] for [loose loves?]
they just let us know they aint [came?] corrected and connected -yea-
the respect that will follow these [hollows?]
line up like [parlor models?]
stealers and dime dealers [fillas?] got [us for rillas, em ?] -yea-
[asians and gays?] you straight space age
herbs and sage, sons of wrath and rage
the word's what remains
What was preferred in this phase,
planted and stays
worded it perfect, the [verdict?]
[he who, here you, yea you?] heard it -ha!-
[these cats?] is ablaze
the [?]
seem to keep, leading us back
feeding us crap we regurgitated
(Put the words in my mouth)
(gimme peace in my heart)
(shine the light in my eyes)
(make the change in my life)
I was walkin down the street
([even though-ough?][low-low-highighigh])
[duh duhduh duh duh] situations I was facin
([high-low-low high-low] change)
I was -rockin to the beat-
(my heart [seems, sings?] [low-hi-[hold for 3]-igh])
sky blue; part two; the things that don't change
([high-low pause low-high])
[it's not?] what we go through find yourself a source [2, low-we?] go to
If life was a beat, you could say I'm steady bobbin to it
and every circumstance, lyrically I'm humming through it
and at the chorus, every time I seem to realize
it was the only part I ever really memorized.
Cuz at the bridge, there was something called the turnaround
it always comes back the same when its played out
cuz every word in the verse is "man I've lived that"
and when the records skip I'm quick to break and run it back
to put it simple man, your life is like a soundtrack
with every circumstance, a melody will follow that
So I'm thanking God for Autotune and Pro Tunes
so he can edit my mistakes and every note's mood
And every off groove, every bad arrangement
And every imperfection that I ever came wit
That's why I'm never concentrated on that one hit
I'm staying focused on material that's timeless
Cuz when it's needed man, I want you to rewind this
And when it's [hard?] to see the vision that's behind this
It doesn't matter if a label ever signs this
[every fine ass?, ever find us a?] promoter get behind this
It's in the hands of something larger than The Industry
This is life through the sounds of eternity
You can hear it in the silence of a cold night
When the lyrics give you strength to help your soul fight
(Put the words in my mouth)
(Give peace in my heart)
(Shine the light in my eyes)
(Make the change in my life)
I was walkin down the street
([even though-ough?][low-low-highighigh])
