YOU SAY YOU LIGHT SKINNED

So you say you light skin, oh just where do I begin,
Damn have times changed, are we all deranged?

There is this perception, a true misconception,
That the brighter your skin, the better off you livin’,

You think life’s easy, makes me just queasy,
Stroll around the town, glad you’re not brown,

Half-ass work jobs, makes my head throb,
Smirk with conceit, aint even petite,

Have men on your jock, they follow---they gawk,
The attention is crazy, you more than just lazy,

Get head of the line, ‘cause they all think you’re fine,
The fact is-you-no better than me, because I AM pretty,

With the darkness of my skin, I always fit in,
My black is beautiful, far more suitable,

As the saying goes, which everyone knows,
The darker the cherry, ….oh wait-to the contrary,

I won’t stoop to that level, instead I will just revel,
Here to set the record straight, my words push stacks of weight,

That stereotype is dead, so get that out of your head,
Black girls are back, far from being whack,

We have nothing to prove, cause we are on the move,
Lead roles in T.V. shows, no need to spread open like hoe’s,

On top of the charts, without showing our parts,
Smiles to kill for, need I say more?

Strong black and proud, I shout it out loud,
You can say you are light skin, but my beauty comes from within!
