After the Fire
Adam was the oldest man on the mountain;
he paused as he stooped beside the fountain.
The reflection in the crystal pool had a beard grown to his knees.
Adam bent and filled his jug to the brim;
he thought how nice it was to take a swim.
And as he thought he rested in the shade of the stunted trees.
Adam fell asleep and dreamed of his youth,
tortured and tumultuous, but lived in truth.
Later came the lies, and the bringers of the Faith.
Adam remembered his lovely bride;
recalled her death, and again he cried.
Fled to the mountains; a sad and wretched wraith.
Adam knew when it all went wrong,
and the good people lost out to the strong.
Betrayed by the few greedy servants sworn to their protection.
Adam survived, for life was to be savored,
and in its grasp he greatly labored.
Then the world of old came flooding back into his introspection.
The dragon’s breath spread across the land
and in its wake, destruction grand.
Goodness died and evil spread in all directions.
Never was a weapon built by Man,
left unused for long when placed within his hands.
Mutually Assured Destruction was just a minor correction.
Seven plagues and seven angels had come;
people of the world were all struck dumb.
The fingers of the hand became alike.
Five was the same number but each was numb,
all the same, and none called thumb.
Tools became almost useless overnight.
Collapse of civilization followed;
lacking speech and in their confusion wallowed.
Losing the power of speech was preceded by another loss most grievous:
The thirst for knowledge was easily erased;
since the gift of wisdom was not replaced.
And all around came the final lament to “save us”.
What men with their guns could not take,
the judges with their gavels did forsake.
A system of honor replaced by one of laws;
no longer offering any protection.
Then a billion souls swept out into space,
and history will never forget, or time erase.
Adam awoke from his dream with an erection.
A young girl from the valley was astride him;
grinding with her hips as she did ride him.
Knowing that his babies were the best.
Not like all the others, selfish and cruel,
but kind, gentle and caring was the rule.
She finished and left Adam to his rest.
On a planet near a star quite far away,
a billion souls were sent there to survey,
The richness of the land and life to follow.
Placed there by the Master’s hand,
to try again; this time with another plan,
And hoping for a better day tomorrow.
