The End of the Road
Met a Year Sevener earlier today,
man he was in tears
and afraid to be at his new High School.
There I was, walking through the corridor
to my Chemistry class.
But then I saw him
Head buried in his hands.
His first day of a new life.
The struggle of a hostile High School.
He in his Junior uniform
and I in my senior uniform
two ends of the same road.
Man, I've been there too.
I sat down beside him
back sliding down the wall.
"You alright, mate?"
I said to him.
As I sat down.
At first he wouldn't answer
shy, and afraid.
I told him not to worry
not to fear.
I've known his pain
and it's not sympathy to why I was there.
I related to him.
He said things I used to say.
Asked for his name
Ezekial.
He wasn't tall, with white skin.
And slightly overweight.
His classmates have been giving him shit.
On his first day.
I said to him
what nobody said to me.
"Brother, no matter what you go through
you're never alone. You gotta stay strong.
It's a long way to the end
but I've gotten to the end
You can too, just keep smiling.
Be loyal and be a man that can be trusted
Hold your friends and family close
have respect, for others and yourself
Stay strong, from here on out
I'm always here, to help you through."
He smilied, glad he found a friend
and I told him, I was just like him.
A loner, an outcast.
And I had the same disrespect.
But I strengthened my resolve
grew physically and mentally tough.
And you can too.
Stand by your decisions
be proud of yourself.
Have confidence
and keep your strength.
You're never alone
no matter how dark the days grow.
