Image for the poem The Wall

The Wall

It was built consciously by you,
Built sub-consciously by me,
Never the less,
Build by us.

Brick by brick the wall was built,
Built to forget,
Built to keep us apart,
Built to be able to live.

Will it ever come down?
Difficult to say.
One thing's for sure,
Tumbling down it never will.

It was chipped at,
Chip by chip, the bricks I did break,
Fixed by you, the holes did disappear,
Standing the wall remains.

For this wall has but two purposes:
To keep Love from leaving,
To stop Love from coming in.

Will Love find a way?
Alone it never will, the Wall will stand.
Together we will, the Wall will no-longer be.

If it will not come down,
Over it we must go,
Accept who we are,
Accept who we have become,
Over it we will then be.

Rise above it we can,
Together as one,
The Wall will seize to be,
Together as one
Our Love can finally be.
