When Dragons Rise prologue

Katrina had always admired her family sheild that hung over her family's marble fireplace. One half of the sheild was white and the other was black, in the middle was a black sword with a silver blade but wrapped around the sword was a great black dragon.

Katrina had done some reasearch on the sheild, the sword's name had been 'Bite' and the dragon's had been 'Hawk'. Katrina had never believed in any mythical creatures, for that matter she didn't even beleive there was a god. She believed in science and stuck to that theory.

She brushed her hair over her sounder as she walked down the oak stairs for breakfast. It was her first day back at school for the year and to be honest she really didn't want to go back. She had a horrid feeling that all the people she didn't like would be in her class, that's what usually happened.

Katrina entered the kitchen and opened the fridge door. She'd have what she's usually have for breakfast, peaches and yoghurt. She took the peach tin and the yoghurt container out of the fridge and closed it behind her. She then placed them on the bench and then took a bowl from the cupboard and also places in on the bench and dished out her breakfast.

Loud footsteps were descending down the stairs, Katrina's mother had a hangover again. She wasn't an alcoholic but she did like her parties every now and again, this one was to celebrate kids going back to school.
"Katrina, could you get me some panadol?" She slumped down on the couch, holding her head with her right hand. Katrina got the panadol out of the cupboard and poured her mother a glass of water. She set it down on the table in front of the lounge her mother was sitting on.
