alone

when you have been alone
for so long
I mean you are surrounded
by people
yet, you are alone
none the less
and being alone
which you are supposed to enjoy
it's good for you to drown in the tranquility
of aloneness

at first,
it is quite heavenly
to bask in all things
you enjoy

hot baths, candlelit
dinners for one
with as many candles
gracing your table as you like

watching whatever you want,
whenever you want,
pulling all nighters
because you can

star gazing till the
wee hours of the morning,
eating ice cream for dinner

driving
with all the windows down
just to feel the wind in
your hair at 70 miles per hour

no one telling you what
to do
or asking you for
a single thing
the utmost in quietude

coming and going as
you please,
no schedules
just me time

but, then what happens when you
begin to yearn for more
someone to talk with
someone to hold your hand
another voice to fill
the empty void
that empty space beside you

that yearning for physical contact
besides the cat
purring incessantly in your ear
and there is no one
to fill that space
what then?
