Man Versus Monster
Darkness like clouds passes across Your eyes
As with Yourself You are fighting inside
This conflict’s been waged so many times
When out of the depths the Monster climbs
Wanting to scar her and needing her pain
Longing to hear her cry out again
Part of You trying to banish such thought
Part of You knowing that You simply cannot
Fearful still of causing such hurt
Her impending agony You try to avert
You’re torn between these two side of You
As deeper and deeper this storm does brew
Why want to hurt one who You love
She who You think the whole world of
Yet vile thoughts stalk the halls of Your soul
This evilness that You attempt to control
Why do You so crave wounding another
Especially the one You need like no other
The one who gives You all she possesses
The one who freely her love she confesses
The battle rages on and grows more violent
As the monstrous beast will not remain silent
But the man in You, ever gentle, is strong
And knows He must keep struggling on
So over and over in an endless debate
You wonder if this always will be Your fate
The part of You that You always will fight
When You lie next to her in the still night
