Can Anyone Doubt The Power Of The Blues?
Without assessing fault
or pinning any blame
can we tell it like it is
without it sounding too lame
The logic can be reduced
giving no comfort in the fall
reducing even Mensa man
to nothing more then a desperate crawl
So down memory lane
to the famous we so well know
because every guy has been there before
left in tatters and maybe much less dough
Leadbelly spoke of Irene
with her a joyous ride
but if she ever turned him down
he'd "take morphine and die"
Do we dare mention Little Richard's "Lucille"
craving her married and all
by the time she was done with him
all he wanted to was ball
I tell you fellows there are some
out there who you think as so so fine
but if you aren't careful they will
blow more then just your time
My favorite crooner gave subtle warning
Nat wondered the lady whose face held that smile
that "Mona Lisa" tempting smile even deceptive
or mending a broken heart in her own precocious style
The Stones lamented about "Angie"
oh how tragic that love had to die
and even the harshest critic
couldn't say "they never tried"
And don't you dare believe I forgot
the ax slinger some called god
wife of another, that "Layla"
bet that higher power was tempted to use the rod!
So sit down if dare my best bard I will do
stories about love ending in vain
maybe the next you will be more lucky
and not be left standing in the rain
Thanks to Leadbelly, Little Richard, Nat King Cole, The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton and numerous other writers and artist who express heartbreak via a song.

Ouch someone got a hold of one of those pens and threw it too hard!
I am again humbled that my feeble attempt at putting words together was liked.

How you write so gracefully about ending loves. Think we can all relate here. :)

writing about a graceful end is so much easier then dealing with one in real life.
Thanks for the positive comment.

Thanks---my regret when mentioning music is I will forget someone I really like but without a doubt Nat is my favorite all time male vocalist, so I showed did away with objectivity and just went on my way. I have a much tougher time picking one female singing)

Jazz if we put all our favorite loved singers out there even half...You wouldn't have time to write the poem...Your just saving the ones you left out for your next works!!!

I enjoyed your poem Jazz. Music carries a powerful voice, especially so when it speaks of pain and heartbreak. I think we can all well relate to a blue song or two, (or thirty)

Thanks, but thirty songs? Please tell me you plucked that number out of thin air!

'Mona Lisa' and 'Glamour' both can hide many an epiphany that never comes to light, in their time.
