Pointless Possessions

The things we own, Simple clutter in our homes
Pointless possessions for the sake of the void in our hearts
Endlessly working towards greed, We burn our true colors to replace them with green
All in hopes that we will feel their embrace
While our selflessness lies in memory without a trace

Trampling on our children to crush once-held hopes
Falling on fellow victims to prevent falling out of bullies’ good graces
We run through life without ever touching ground
Our hearts in platinum cages and necks in crude nooses
We look above the crowd to find the easiest route
Our once-held admirers can’t bear to see our proud faces

Trusting liars to hold our pot of gold without taking their cut
Running to collect our worthless obsessions from the pile that seems so conspicuous
Our wallets are our value and our stature in this bottomless rut
Sneaking by honor to do our part, Stabbing each other in the heart
All in hopes of feeling important to the blind masses
