The Rise And Fall Of The Sleepless Ones

The sleepless ones will inherit the earth
While the rest doze off without care
Insomniacs will chisel away at the foundation
Then we’ll all fall through it, locked in R.E.M.

If the morning should come and fade away
Into the dusk once again, we won’t have enough time to prepare
The robots will do their dirty work to sabotage
To slit the throats of the dreamers

And once all of the heavily sedated fools
The unfortunate narcoleptics, the constant bedwetters
And the sleeping uglies have drifted off to no-man’s land
The persistent nocturnals will have completed the task at hand

Then everyone will stand like statues, not blinking
For a flicker of the eyes is an obvious weakness
The time will stand still with them, or just seem to be
In a land where the sand man is nowhere in sight
