THEME: Depression, hopelessness, tragedy

POINT:

*To convey a period of my life that was very dark and depressing.

*To bring a sense of animeness to fantasy and explore a world of my creation.

*To prove to myself that I can write a novel.

EMOTIONAL POINT:

*The hero does not always win.

*That depression does not go away so easy and that it can kill.

Ex. Sol goes from being this person trying to live through a tragedy in his life to being put in new situations that make him deal with that same hurt, which leads to him killing himself.

*People have problems and though we might wish to fix them sometimes the problem is too difficult to cut through.

THEMATIC POINTS:

*Is life worth living if we have to deal with the pain it brings?

*Why do some people get a wonderful life and others suffer?

EXPERIENTIAL POINT

*Sadness (I want to make them cry or come close to it)

*Character Investment

*Believability in my world.

CHARACTER POINTS:

Ending

*By the end Sol believes he has no real place in this world. This is directly caused by the father figure character (Alunda) leaving him, which he associates with his families death. It is the final straw.

*Alunda pours his heart out to Shentra (his former apprentice who was trying to kill him) and confesses his love for her. Because of this act Shentra relents and tells him the same. They both decide to stay together, and Alunda decides to leave Sol to his own devices to become a better mage.

*Tsuk after watching the battle with Sol and Morzak decides to stay and heal Sol's wounds before going after Morzak. This effectively ends his debt to him and he goes off to hunt for Morzak.

*Maleen?

*D'ereen?

PLOT:

The novel starts with Sol in high school in Meda (Meda is about 1 day and 6 hours north of Saprelpool). Sol is the outsider, he sits at the back of classes and hardly talks to anyone. School is about to let out for fall break in nearly three days. He drops his books in the hall, and a voice accompanies it with, "Freak." School ends and Sol grabs his book bag and heads home. It is here we get a sense for how empty his life is. At home he goes into his sisters room (he had 3 sisters and a mother), he cleans the glass on a picture of him and his family. Afterwards he goes outside and does some manual labor to pass the time, then after he makes a fire and starts on his homework.

Pan on him going to bed and having a nightmare. Pan over to him in class the next day getting moderate to unhealthy grades. We get a sense that students don't like him or try to avoid speaking with him, the teachers are better at this tactic and do the same. He is not good at any of these subjects but feels he should be good at something, only he hasn't found it yet. The school is not that diverse and there are all humans, no alfen or anything live in this town. He skips a class to spend time on the roof to sit and daydream. It is here he sees a small speck in the sky. He lays back staring at the speck eventually falling asleep. He is awakened by a rough jerk and a teacher escorts him to the office but not before he gets a glimpse that the speck is much bigger now.
