October's Falling fast This Year
Send now the rain,
Then thunder came and the tower flowered fire.
From showers
Lightning forks descend the clouds to the mire.
And all around the glen,
Winds bend the treetops to the ground.
Willows will lay low and cringe under these sights and sounds.
But by your side
Faith resides and I'll call this storm a liar.
Let it blow and crackle and glow,
We'll stand and never tire.
Redwoods tall in silvers and blacks,
An unflinching, earthly spire.
We'll stand among the swirling leaves,
The blooms and the briar.
The booms and sparks and endless sheets
Will shutter all the shire.
The nocturne howls and rolling growls will whisper fear,
Most dire.
October's falling fast this year.
But you and I,
As squirrels, will lie,
Warm under blanket to retire.
