Good. You do so much with so little words. This here is talent. The contrast between dull grey light (i connect this with "self-esteem", or 'hope'), and 'glowing' insecurities. This says that the negativity outshines the positivity. Smart move making the second  line 'set to expire', it negates the next two lines by saying instill all you want, it wont work.

I thought I had caught you using a paradox in the last line. How can it be fire which emits light but still dark. It sounds as if you made a contradiction. But I think your usage of the word may be not refering to dark as in 'absence of light' but dark as in... lets say the dark category on DU. Dark as in 'related to sinister ways'.

Good poem

I've felt my other poems have been somewhat rambling and uninteresting, short conscise poems seem so much more engaging so I thought I'd given one a try. Thank you for your extraneously kind words, they are so very much appreciated and have lightened an otherwise dour day for me.

The 'dark fire' idea was as you say, where dark is sinister and malicious, misleading and cruel. Thanks again for your comment!

Thanks Atakti! This was a real 'strip-the-fat' attempt at an idea that I so bulk up in poems like a mother wrapping her son in layers of clothes, ironically the stripped-down version came at such a cold time!
