Promise Me
Don’t promise me forever
Or happily ever after.
Don’t promise me sunshine
Or tears that never break the laughter.
Don’t promise me perfection,
Or unrealistic fairytales.
Don’t promise me that there will never
Be days were your love for me fails.
Instead promise me a love hard fought,
Promise me Jell-O fights,
Arms that will hold me when I cry,
And “I love you” s at night.
Promise me mistakes,
That we’ll learn to rise above,
Promise me children,
That will swell my heart with love.
Promise me late night giggles
When passion turns silly.
Promise me after work surprises,
A bouquet of white lilies.
Promise me a dance
Where no music sounds.
Promise me fights,
That we’ll get around.
Promise me a journey
Of unforeseen turns.
Promise me despite hardships,
We’ll grown and we’ll learn.
Promise me hidden views
As you hold tenderly my child,
Tucking them in with a story book,
Voice soft and mild.
Promise me all your days,
All your good and your bad.
Promise me your happiness,
And Promise me your sad.
Promise me I’ll be safe
With my heart in your hands.
Promise me you’ll let me hold you
When you feel you can’t stand.
Promise me a partnership
That embraces the faults.
Promise me help
As on my knees I exalt.
Promise me a kiss every morning
And prayer ever night.
Promise me our children
Will never grow up used to a fight.
Just promise me you,
All your faults and your smiles,
Promise you’ll stay
In my arms for a while.
I don’t expect perfect,
Or days with no pain,
But I pray for goofiness
And a dance in the rain.
Just promise me love,
That you’ll always be by my side,
You’ll always be my husband,
And I’ll always be your bride.
Or happily ever after.
Don’t promise me sunshine
Or tears that never break the laughter.
Don’t promise me perfection,

Don’t promise me that there will never
