A sad heart
My heart is torn thinking about how I'm the reason your sad. Beleaguered images stain your mind. Makes me shed tears knowing that you feel their is nothing you can do to discontinue such pain. And despite the battered way I've made you feel, you still love me. It breaks my heart even more.

This is thought provoking for me because my efforts to comfort someone in such a situation always seems to backfire. The sadness quickly becomes anger.
Empathy is a quality we could use more of these days.
