Sandy Hook
We cry rivers of tears down the face of our nation
because of innocents lost, innocence lost
We wail with our collective voice for the children
because our hearts are torn asunder, our souls are ripped to shreds
We hemorrhage anguish from our very pores
because we cannot understand, we cannot comprehend
We grieve for and with those we do not even know
because we feel their pain, we feel their despair
We reassure our own little ones it won’t happen to them
because we know they are fearful, we are fearful
We want to be blind to it all but we cannot be
because such terror exists, such tragedies are too common
We argue politics about preventing another abomination
because we feel helpless, we feel impotent to stop insanity
We will move forward and eventually absorb the horror
because we have no choice, life goes on
because of innocents lost, innocence lost
