"Specs"

Specs
respect
the muscles
that don't
flex
and plex.

Specs hide the real face
a alter ego
illegal
the guise
of a disguise
when i remove the specs
am i someone else?

Specs perch on the bridge
of my nose
slipping down
when i talk
sometimes they free fall
avoiding my boot
when i walk.

The social stigmatization
people carry fear
the sting of the arms
of the frame
around the back of the ears.

lenses become scratched
the frame
ravaged by age
specs are expensive
not covered by
minimum wage.
i can see different
perspectives
different situations
with broken
eyes i gaze.

Specs give the illusion
of intelligence
when clearly
i have none
im writing a poem
about a pair of glasses
for goodness sake.
