Stillborn

Silence echoes on the walls
And in our heart
Painting a picture of heartbreak

It’s not the awkward silence
No this is different
Nobody’s shifting uncomfortably
Nobody moves, nobody even makes a sound
Fearing it will somehow hurt
What is already broken

This silence isn’t filled with tension
This is a silence of utter despair
It’s suffocating everyone
Yet no one breaks it in fear
Like, if we hold our breath
Then maybe you’ll receive yours

Breathe your first breath of life
Cry for the very first time
Open your eyes to see
All these people who love
Who would rather die in your place

The nurses says it no one’s fault
Does she think that’s going to help?
We all are blaming ourselves
But no one more
Than the woman who birthed you
Who loved you while still in the womb

She was so excited
Her and your dad
But now her face holds only devastation
I’m at least happy you can’t see her
It’s a sight that makes me wish for blindness
But then again so do you

Now it kills me to look at you
All I see is the beautiful child
You were meant to be
It’s alright though
Don’t be afraid
You’re in God’s hands now
Away from our pain
