SmileFall

Ripped that page from the book
The one that had my name,
Erased the sound from the audio,
Blotted out the picture in the frame

Ran down the plotted hall way
Took all those chapters down
Deleted all the periods
There was no way I could wear that crown

All the scenes where I was present
Were hastily labeled with ‘re-write’
Each recorded moment
A participation that I had to fight

I cannot play in this story
Eradicate my being from the cast
Redirect the leading role
With someone much more classed

I removed myself from the fairytale
The scenes just didn’t fit
After they wrote my heart to love
And the world staked it over a pit

Cinderella wasn’t scarred
Sleeping Beauty never drowned
Beauty and her Beast
Never broke from being bound

My own playwright is much different
Recorded with smudged lenses
Written from the deceived heart
That had too often depended

My role is to close the doors,
And on all those, locks install,
Look out from shaded windows
Watch smiles as they fall

There’s no fairytale in my weaving
The happy endings just don’t form
Not in this rough setting,
Where heartache is the most often born

Secretly I’ll hide the ache
The want for that fairytale
Wait endlessly for that book
That for a moment, my world might veil

This is where I’m meant to be
Pulling stories off the wall
I’ll keep my place in line,
And watch those smiles as they fall
