Better Then Never

When you travel to a train station with a heavy mind
part of you is considering the grass beneath your feet.
Many times people forget how nature weaves its way
into our day to day lives.
Part of you is considering the smell of the air, and the crisp
biting quality it has as you inhale deeply, picking up the pace.
True, the manifestations of the mind rest in the mind alone,
but as those thoughts are transferred into the conscious world
something magical happens.
Part of you considers how green the grass is, covered in thickened
frost, and the way it snaps beneath your feet.
Your mind connects with your body, which connects to the world
around you in significant ways that we can only pretend to understand.
Part of you is considering the sounds of the birds and the bells of the trains
as you ponder your thoughts in earnest.
It is a hard road, sorting through all the mess,
Yet somehow its paying attention to the little details that makes it easier.
Part of you is considering the sensation of your hand in another
and the scent of their skin in a embrace you have yet to have.

It is matters of the heart that are affected the least
by the world that envelopes you in new ways with every movement you make.
Part of you is considering the feel of the smooth leather
and the steady thump thump of the tracks.
The heart is a island, and those things we choose to let come to rest
on our shores are those invited, and those things that stay out
never are.
Part of you is considering the hum of the light fixtures
and the deep divide between the glass.
Many have tried to impart upon the heart a semblance
of control, but in the end the heart wants what it wants.
Part of you is considering the smell of acrid smoke in the air,
and the sensation of pinpricks upon your spine .
The matters of the mind and the heart
are often in conflict, though vast spaces separate them.
Part of you in considering the tug of momentum
and the hiss of the brakes.
Out of the two, the heart is the most true
the most accurate to the way you feel
and should always be listened to.
Part of you is considering of feel of her hand
as you exit the train, and the
soft scent of her skin.
