Happy Couple at a Show
The happy couple at a show
Dressed up, have somewhere to go.
With his arm around her waist
He holds the charm of life's embrace.
A happy smile on her face
Is calm in love in time and space.
With soft red hair, her flowing form
Clothes of cream and white adorn.
A leather purse under her arm
Hangs from her shoulder with such charm.
Her dress-up sandals open toed
Show how with each step she flows.
A leather buckle at her waist
Is an oval ring of grace.
Her sleeve shows forearm, graceful hand
That dangles down in grace unplanned.
Her other arm is round the waist
Of the man who suits her taste.
He is a lucky man indeed
To satisfy this beauteous need.
Her soft eyes speak of dreams fulfilled
As the magic of their dream unfurls.
(With black hair and leather jacket,
I must assume the guy can hack it.
With black sweater and blue jeans,
Black leather shoes, he suits the scene.
To win the love of one so fair
He must've said a special prayer.)

Wow. Thanks. I knew when I was writing it, that I was deliberately creating a lopsided picture focusing in just on her and that the reader will be left wondering what's going on. It's really cool to me that the poem can create the assumption that 'the guy' is the writer of the poem. It makes perfect sense. As an onlooker, I am at once admiring their story and vicariously being in it -- and then being outside the story and envious and yearning to emulate their success. I'm so glad that the duality plays out in the way you read it. Thanks so much for your comment!
