     She Blackbird (Red-winged Blackbird)

She sweetly talks to every form
the she blackbird so unadorned.

Her camouflage of tawny brown
matches spruce bough’s muted tone.

Stippled branch and crested cone
her mottled feathers match in form.

She clings to limb -- a crisscross form
as tree and branch she does adorn.

She is the female of her breed.
Her form and function match the need.

In nature’s way, her role to play
she plays her part in mute array.

But her glory is no less
than brighter feathers would attest.
