Mom's Secret Language

From the time
I was just a little tike
my mother had a code

and she would start
the sentence off
as if to say, "Let's go!"

"She used to but
she moved from there,"
was how it started out,

and from there
we made up things
indelicate with gout.

The plasma beam
and centrifuge
of everything supreme

was meant to make
my Dad go mad enough
to make him scream.

It was years and years
beyond I learned
what was so true

that when you talk
in secret code
the one mistook is you.

And so I lived
in isolation
not to speak a word

until I found
the tables turned
when speaking to a bird.

Our chirping made
for little sense
to anyone but us,

but then again
what to expect
while indigo discuss.
