Letting it happen

a man
a friend of six months
is much healthier these days
since he put down the drink

he used to be hospitalised,
and now he's not

he had a red head and shuffled round
the place
had to ask for help getting up the stairs to his bed
he just nips about now
still shaky
somtimes but not often

he walks about head up, laughing
and talking
eating and gambling
just shows you

he was a lost cause as well
