A ghost
When we eat together,
She sits between us.
A ghost of betrayal.
You look longingly at her,
As I stab viciously at whatever you've put on the plate.
When we watch TV,
I lay behind you,
Cuddle up to you, breathe you in,
She sits, glaring at me.
A ghost of being second best.
When we lay in bed, roll over,
Back to back,
It's her laying between us,
Making that unabridged gap.
A ghost that still lives.
When I tell you I love you,
She silently sneers,
Intently watches you for your reaction,
Is that why you never reply with 'love you too'?
Entirely imagined, this ghost.
A cloud hangs over us,
As long as you love her,
At least we're honest about it now,
And we've got over it.
We continue on,
But the ghost of the her you loved
Doesn't know it's over,
And it haunts us.
She sits between us.
A ghost of betrayal.
You look longingly at her,
As I stab viciously at whatever you've put on the plate.
When we watch TV,
I lay behind you,
Cuddle up to you, breathe you in,
