Ain't gon' sing again
Standing on this life stage I’m trying hard to preteen.
Having to put on this mask of a smile,
to hide this sadden face of mine.
Waiting for the act to begin,
before this crowd of strangers.
I stand chagrin. The spot light alone
Is on me now that you’ve gone.
With stage fright, the music begins.
They gawk and stare at this clown, at me
as I start the sad lonely dance.
Across this stage I move in a hypnotic trance
Like a doll with no will of my own
under the puppeteer’s guidance I play
the costume fool.
So familiar, the sweet song of love
Once sang so beautifully by us
We brought the house down with our signature
Dance and memorable song
But the show must go on, yet how can one perform
an act that’s met for two?
Having to put on this mask of a smile,
to hide this sadden face of mine.
Waiting for the act to begin,
before this crowd of strangers.
I stand chagrin. The spot light alone
Is on me now that you’ve gone.
With stage fright, the music begins.
They gawk and stare at this clown, at me
as I start the sad lonely dance.
Across this stage I move in a hypnotic trance
Like a doll with no will of my own
under the puppeteer’s guidance I play
the costume fool.
So familiar, the sweet song of love
Once sang so beautifully by us
We brought the house down with our signature
Dance and memorable song
But the show must go on, yet how can one perform
an act that’s met for two?
