A Verse for All Seasons

Safe & warm like a baby in a blanket
The buds stir slowly ready for their show
Looking towards the warming blue sky
Yawning & stretching as they open their eyes,
The cycle starts & the flowers stand proud
Jostled & pushed getting lost in the crowd
A rainbow of colours fills the gaps in the land
Smiling & swaying the warm breeze gently fans.

Expectant mothers are nervous & tired
Their new-borns just like children play
The lambs are tough & turn their backs to the rain
Showers can fall from March through to May.

Keen to perform the choir stand in line
Dawn starts to break their clock says its time
Half asleep, semiconscious, hearing natures alarm
The dawn chorus awakes you with all of its charm,
Flaming sun smiles down on the earth
As the children play their shouts turn to screams
In the heat of the day the ice-cream melts
Like a snow capped mountain runs into a stream.

In the distance clouds gather how the rain spills
Watch as it bounces off white window sills
Days’ getting shorter somehow colder it seems
The hot endless summer nothing more than a dream.

With the gradual change the animals gather
Hoarding the food to see them through
The trees give a display of incredible colours
In the soft morning mist & the damp heavy dew,
So silent, watching the leaves as they fall
As they cover the ground to form a nice cosy bed
The leaves gently rustle where creatures have crawled
Curled up snug & warm to rest weary heads.

No strength in the sun looking fragile & pale
The dark cloak of winter makes it so frail
Setting out now to smother all in its path
Holding no prisoners dishing out heartless wrath.

The arctic winds blow they show no remorse
Cutting & slicing like a large sharpened knife
Beating & lashing its cruel vicious tongue
A wailing banshee screams through the night.
Marching on through colder & colder
Chilling right down to the marrow in your bones
The cruel winter reaps the weak are it’s pray
A vulgar show off such a powerful display.

In a final twist winter whips its long tail
Silent shroud of snow falls in mid-march
Spring air soon warms the winter’s dark veil
With the sun gaining strength once again taking charge.

Amazing beauty that each season will bring
Come summer, autumn, winter or spring
The bright yellow sun always shines down
Lighting up planet earth, the jewel in the crown.
