Snowbound Passion

Coldest February on record, wind gusting sharp
Icicles formed on the ski lift, hunkered down together

Underneath a shimmering of snowy diamonds, blinding to see
The sun on our backs, but still not warming us up

Total silence below, no skiers on the trails
All drinking hot chocolate in front of the fire

Humming of the cable as we pass over a tower
Then nothing but the wind to remind us we're not alone

But then it happens, our worst fear, the chair stops
Dangling in midair, not even half way to the top

I hold your ski poles while you readjust your gloves
Repositioning my skis on the footrest, getting comfortable

Another big gust, cuts thru my down filled coat
Breathing in my lungs tighten, eyes water

Then suddenly it all changes, winter magic
Feeling you lean against me, snuggle close

Switching my poles to one hand, I put my arm around you
Moving closer there is no space between us

Hearing a muffled "I love you", I move in closer
Cold noses rub for warmth, so Eskimo, so right

Then scarves moved carefully so fragile lips can kiss
The taste of chapstick suddenly arousing, desire

And so we kiss and kiss and kiss, feeling the warmth
Not even noticing our chair in motion, the ascent resumed

Finally brought back to the real world, just in time
Lifting the bar and skiing off of the lift together

Stopping by the trail map, we couple, your skiis between mine
Our lips pick up where they left off, till I hear you say "Meet you in the hot tub ..."
