Bard's Midnight Song
Why would you turn away?
These nights have been given to you
and the wind through the branches
is the midnight bard who plays
just for you.
Didn't time whisper to you?
Or was it too busy to be ignored?
You've become enslaved by the days,
squinting in the sun, shutting out the moon.
Life has abandoned you,
stood you on a barren cliff with a willow
and an angry bard who wails in despair
but I'm standing with you
and I give myself to the wind's whirl
without hearing a single whisper, and I
will never wait for the starry days to go
so I can cringe and cower in sunlit nights.
Maybe
our essence lies between two heartbeats
then you are my time and my whisperer
and I am your ears
for the bard's midnight song.
