A Promise
He stares at an open field
A background of stars behind him and blue sky ahead
He stands at the edge of reason
Swaying with the wind
He refuses the urge to move forward
As his demons chase after him
He breaks the surface
And clings to a dream of a shadow of a shell when everything was the same
Yet he knows it never will be
What now, he wonders
Back or forward
He cannot return to the past
Memories, fierce, like sharpened blades call out to him
The blue sky before him taunts him
Come, she whispers, see what darkness I place in your way, hiding behind my sun
He staggers, waiting on the edge
Battling his thoughts he watches time slip away
One, two...The hours run past
And still he stands, with nothing in his hands
For his life was taken away
His home stolen from him
His heart wanders aimlessly
But he refuses to see what lies right next to him
Darkness before, infinity ahead, and by his side
A friend
Yet all he sees is shadow
I stagger with him, patiently waiting
Eternity passes and still I wait
His heart cries out, my soul, his, shatters
And still he waits
For destiny to lend her hand
For fate to intervene
The heavens are closed to his plight
But by his side
For all eternity
I will wait
A background of stars behind him and blue sky ahead
He stands at the edge of reason
Swaying with the wind
He refuses the urge to move forward
As his demons chase after him

And clings to a dream of a shadow of a shell when everything was the same
