Searching for Immortality(a collaboration with the Heslopian)
Remember everything you are in all consciousnesses
then remember you won't need any of it
as your ego is stripped from your shoulders
in that bewildering blaze of synthesis before you pass.
What will begin can never end.
Beside everyone else dying at that moment
you'll climb down a ladder into death,
the well's mouth shrinking with each mile.
When the well shrinks to the size of a fist
so you can't continue or retreat to the pin-hole
your whimpers will echo and fade before light
as though you're trapped in God's ear.
And what has been is over.
You'll be another man's memories, my son,
so make those images rich and colourful.
Imbue them with love before light disappears
for the common thoughts that shuffle
through the heads of all who knew you
will be the most consistent and shape
your murky reflection in their clouded pools.
All men and women are pharaohs,
dedicating their lives to death.
Our monuments can not be caressed,
but exist as stories passed between friends.
