Tied Up
Years ago,
the lake washed tiny shells
and random debris up on a small beach,
it also washed untied boats out to the middle.
So from past experiences
he made sure he tied his boat by the shore,
he was getting too old to swim out to the middle and retrieve it.
With each year stacked upon his life,
his boat stayed tied to that post
for longer periods of time.
When the final stacks to his life pyramid were being stacked,
the boat stayed tied up.
On his last day he saw the boat,
and wanted to go out for the last time.
He didn’t make it,
on his walk across the lawn,
he collapsed and died in the sand.
Years later,
the lake was emptied.
Everyone moved away,
but that boat stayed there,
tied up.
Waiting for it’s owner to take it out
for one last spin.
