Why Can't Life Be More Like Poetry
So tell me why life can't be more like poetry
Full of truth, beauty, and authenticity
People letting down their guard, being vulnerable
Sharing all that it is real and precious about who they are
Saying things that really matter, making deep connections
Instead of superficial, trite, and plastic veneers
With poetry we get to see each other's souls
Sharing moments that are warm and special
Daring to fly and to dance or to cry and long
Without fear of being judged and dismissed
Share meaninful conversations across the centuries
Recognizing that we aren't really alone
For we are all such flawed and desperate beings
Fragile animals aware of our own bittersweet mortality
So wanting to be eternal and beautiful
Wrestling daily with this most human of conditions
Come, read my poetry and watch me unveil myself
Let you see the deepest essence of who I am
And I shall do the same without judgement or editing
Savor your words realizing that they are fingerprints of your soul
Full of truth, beauty, and authenticity
People letting down their guard, being vulnerable
Sharing all that it is real and precious about who they are
Saying things that really matter, making deep connections
Instead of superficial, trite, and plastic veneers
With poetry we get to see each other's souls

Daring to fly and to dance or to cry and long
Without fear of being judged and dismissed

Recognizing that we aren't really alone
