I dream of you.
Enveloped warm in quilt and in covers
Inward breath scent of entangled lovers.
If I keep to and sleep on the side of my own
I can fool myself into thinking that I'm not alone.
If I begin to drift into a doze,
If I let my heavy eyelids half-close,
I can feel your arms around me tight,
And the tingle of your whisper goodnight.
The rhythm so gentle of your breath at my ear
And comfort of your body so near
To mine, sends me sailing far away,
Into dreams and half-memories of our near-perfect day.
Tossing and turning in imaginary kisses,
Untricked mind ignores absence of the one that it misses,
In ambivolent and stubborn sleep, the night slowly passed,
Til the mattress bows to the side at last.
He perches himself timidly in the space I left for him,
Slowly raises soft fingers to tip upward my chin,
Through confusion and blur his silhouette I make,
He's smiling as he kisses me awake.
