Premonition (Chapter 9)
Irritation and anxiety flooded through me as I impatiently waited for third period to finish. I would be content with just the view but the class or better yet, the zoo, was getting out of hand. I let out a sigh while I watched an entire fleet of paper planes crash into the blackboard. Apparently, the teachers were dragged into yet another meeting, leaving the cages unattended. I could let myself out but I didn't know when they'll be back. It had to be a crime to deal with idiots this early in the morning and hell be damned if I had to handle Mrs.Rachel as well. What makes it worse is that the 'zoo' seemed to be importing as well as exporting its animals. That door couldn't stay closed for 2 seconds before it was flung open by either a Northerner or a Lillian.
Just as I was about to manage a mid-morning migraine, the Queen Bee made an appearance. This is NOT my day but then again, it never is. Greeted by almost the entire class, Rogue wasted no time in joining the crowd. I hated this. I hated how those sun-dwellers were so blind as to worship someone that brought them nothing but hardship and fear. They were drowning and their pride was like the weight that doomed them all. A fine example would be Lucianna Argon. As soon as Jacintha walked in, the parrots had flocked to a different tree, which of course, made the class whore upset. However, all she did was pout. Not that I approved of her 'habits' but if she was thick-skinned enough to be a slut, she should be able to handle a bitch just fine. I wonder what secrets had she left to be ashamed of. Now that i think about it, was Rogue what she is today by throwing away her secrets? Or...was everything but a facade? Well, the bigger they are, the harder they fall but somehow she wasn't exactly worth my effort to dig up. Even thinking about her made my head throb. With my forehead still on the table, I pulled the pin holding my hair into a bun. I'd have it cut but the only benefit was that it served as insulation on cold annoying days.
I was about to fall asleep when the Queen Bee decided to use me as her next court jester. All I heard was a fading voice that seemed to become even more enraged the more my eyes drooped. From what i heard after that, she got so pissed that a 'nobody' dared to defy her highness that she totally lost it. She stomped over and snatched my pin, shouted my name (and a few insults while she was at it), but when I didn't respond, she hoisted that thing high above her head and almost brought it down on mine when I heard it drop to the floor. THAT woke me up. When I opened my eyes, Rogue, for the first time, was pale and speechless. I was so stunned from that alone that I hardly registered Flourite's sudden appearance. He had a firm grip on that hand of hers which was an unnerving few centimeters away from my neck and a death glare which seemed to scare even me. Although my vision was still blurry, I could make out his intense stare that made the Queen Bee's knees literally buckle and fail her. My widened eyes were fixed on his. My mind was completely blank. Not from fear like the rest but just in awe. Was I really knocked out to the point where I couldn't hear him approach? I swear I was down for only a few minutes but yet...how could he have reached the classroom this quickly? It was a thirty minute walk from the cross-section in the other building not to mention that I saw him stalking around the greenhouse from the window about ten minutes ago. What did he do, fly? Strangely, that only sounded weird for a few seconds. I've heard a lot of things about this guy but none that i cared to believe in. Anything could be possible at this point, but how did he know I was in trouble? If he was in the greenhouse, the vegetation would have shielded his view of this entire building.
I stood up as Rogue's leg hit my desk as she collapsed. While he let her hand go, his eyes shifted toward mine. I felt his expression soften ever so slightly but those green eyes of his were still searching mine. We stayed like that for awhile until out of nowhere, my lips parted on their own. 'I'm fine.' i whispered without even thinking. 'Really.' I added for reassurance as I saw his body was still tensed up, even for him. After one last look, he blinked his eyes shut as he turned to leave. My mind had suddenly made an abrupt return when I no longer saw his face. Before he left the classroom entirely, my common-sense kicked back in and I managed to shout a 'thanks' in time. He, in return had stopped, turned his head sideways to look at me, then walked away. His expression back to being a blank canvas.
During this entire incident, the class was frozen in a pin-drop silence, but after he left, they started whispering. It had only just happened but they were already exaggerating to the extent that it infuriated me. "Almost tore her arm off, didn't you see?" "I bet he sucked all the energy out of her! That DEMON!" "That was so scary! Who do you think might be his next victim?" "He used mind control to lure her into his presence! She's lucky to be alive!"...I never felt so angry in my life. I picked up my pin and left the room. I didn't know where i was going but i didn't care. I just wanted to get as far away from those...vile creatures as I could. They were the monsters, not him. What makes it worse is that, once word gets to the teachers or others outside the school, his reputation would be even worse than it already is. I was so angry that i started crying. I was about to wipe away those tears when I noticed that my hand was bleeding. I was so lost in thought that i didn't notice that i gripped the sharp end of my pin till it pierced through me. I was so angry that I didn't feel its pain. It was only after a few of my tears dripped onto it that it began to sting. I looked down and I saw a small pool of blood. I looked behind me and I saw a trail of red dots on the white marbled tiles. Of all the inconvenient times i had to face, this had to be the worst, for I just realized that i had lost, and was still losing, a lot of blood. A few seconds after that thought, everything seemed to black out. I couldn't breathe properly. Everything was going black. I was panting but I couldn't hear a thing, then I fell on something hard and lost consciousness.
