Goodbye!
She demanded
"Hang up the phone
Let go of the chord
stretched out between us
Let the connection be lost over the line
That has been crossed more often than you want to know
Say goodbye and press end one last time
There is no one on this end of the call"
You placed so long ago you can't remember the sound
That once made your heart race and your ears vibrate
Pulsing with the beat she tapped into your mind
The look in her eyes when she lay next to you
A distant memory that lingers in the darkness
When all there was left to say was goodbye
And you could not pull the words out through your teeth
Then you could not hang up to hear her voice no more
Her final act was to cut the line like she did your throat
That would not let you speak the words she begged you to say
So now forever in your mind her last word echos, goodbye
"Hang up the phone
Let go of the chord
stretched out between us
Let the connection be lost over the line
That has been crossed more often than you want to know
Say goodbye and press end one last time
There is no one on this end of the call"
You placed so long ago you can't remember the sound

Thanks Alecia. I was just sitting here listening to some old music that reminded me of a girlfriend from many years ago and I got to thinking about the night I came home from college and was excited to see her, then this phone call happened. I don't think I have ever written a poem from a memory before. So it was very strange for me to even have an inspiratioon without being in the moment. Maybe the events of today had more inflience over it than I realized, not in reality, but in the mood I am in that brought it out now. jj

I think that this poem will echo with many people. For some reason, people cannot say goodbye in any civil manner. Divorces are nightmares....from experience...but so are breakups....Many people, both men and women just DROP you in the rudest way, almost calculated to cause the greatest harm....How can you love someone or say you love them and then dump them in such a fashion???????????
Loved your poem....

when a person really loves, he gets angry and even nasty when the relationship hits a bad patch....
it is as if he can do anything to guard his possession... but ironically this behavior, makes the other person think that things have changed and the love has faded away.... It is a two way thing... And highly mysterious..... :(
but a very nice poem.... It is universal in tone and content....

Alecia makes an excellent point, JJ. Your work is always faultlessly expressed and carried out, beautifully written, and simply impeccable... Do my eyes deceive me or is this a newly written piece? You might not have written much recently, but you certainly haven't lost your touch.

Yes, this is new! Thanks for commenting and thank you for the amazing compliment, you are so observant, lol... Now I am going to have to find somewhere to vent my ego after you went and said all of that about me and my poetry... Between you and Alecia I'm going to need another pillow for my head tonight, lol... etc.

Thank yo for commenting stephanie! Sadness has a way of inspiring beautiful verse to help offset the pain of that inspiration... jj
